Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Special Education Academic Services collaborates with all Anchorage School District staff, parents, and community members to develop, monitor, and administer special education services. Specifically, the assistant director provides leadership of special education services within schools for students from kindergarten through age 21. The assistant director provides leadership support for the teaching and learning of students with disabilities; designs and provides professional development; assists in developing and monitoring budgets; assists in maintaining compliance with all applicable government regulations and ASD standards; and assists with the coordination of special education complaint resolution within ASD. The assistant director is under the general direction of the senior director of Special Education Instruction. This position requires a valid Alaska teaching or administrative certificate and has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS).
