Academic Advising Director directs the academic advising department, its processes, and its advisors. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students advising needs. Being an Academic Advising Director assists Dean or Associate Dean in the preparation and implementation of department wide goals, procedures, and controls. Analyzes existing goals and programs and recommends improvements. Additionally, Academic Advising Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the associate dean. The Academic Advising Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Academic Advising Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Essential –

     

    • Provide leadership to the overall operation of academic advising.
    • Supervise academic advisors in the Student Success Center.
    • Ensure responsive advising to new and current students.
    • Work collaboratively with faculty, instructional administrators, and other student services personnel to ensure successful outcomes for students.
    • Ensure students’ progression toward their educational goal is monitored and that advising staff utilizes various strategies/tools to address academic persistence, engagement, and completion.
    • Utilize student success data and student development research to inform decisions regarding student learning and advising program outcomes, including assessing outcomes toward continuous improvement.
    • Assist with advising current and prospective students on the college’s offerings, academic pathways, prerequisites, programs, procedures, and services.
    • Work with appropriate individuals and various departments to maintain accurate, current academic and instructional program information.
    • Develop and maintain professional relationships with external partners to create a seamless, integrated, and comprehensive advising system.
    • Oversee the development, deployment, and assessment of new student orientation programs.
    • Develop and implement a model for career counseling for current and prospective students.
    • Perform maintenance and distribution of HutchCC’s advising handbook.
    • Develop, coordinate, and present workshops/trainings for faculty, students, prospective students, staff, and community groups on student services related topics.
    • Coordinate and supervise the Annual Career Connections Job Fair, the semi-annual College Transfer Fair, and campus visits and group tours.
    • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
    • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
    • Serve actively on campus


    Secondary –

     

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Enrollment Management and the Vice President of Student Services.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    • Master’s Degree in Human Services, Academic Advising, or another related field preferred.
    • Career counseling certification such as MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory, etc., preferred.
    • Experience providing career and academic counseling preferred.
    • Experience or training in testing and measurements preferred.
    • The ability to demonstrate interpersonal communication skills and public speaking ability.
    • The ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
    • Demonstrated management/team building skills preferred.


    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:


    • Physical requirements include excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills; excellent organizational skills; ability and willingness to collaborate; ability to work independently; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; light to moderate, indoor work environment.
    • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
    • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

    SALARY and STATUS:


    The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is 12 months annual, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
