    Major Duties

    Under general supervision of the Student Resources Center (SRC)/ Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Director, the Academic Advisor provides academic advisement services to a caseload of students in the Mike Curb College and Arts, Media and Communication, coordinated through the SRC / EOP Satellite. The incumbent provides advisement to individuals and groups of prospective, new and continuing students from one or more departments in the College.

    • Explains university degree requirements, academic policies, procedures and regulations.
    • Assists students with educational planning, course selection, and other advisement related issues.
    • Provides additional holistic support services to EOP students and participated in EOP admission.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
    • Equivalent to one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level.
    • A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for the required experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; working knowledge of research and interviewing techniques; knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and working knowledge of the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.
    • Ability and specialized skills to: rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data.
    • Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

    • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
    • Classification: SSP IB / 3079 / grade 2
    • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4269 - $4272 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4269 - $6040 per month.
    • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
    • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. Based upon satisfactory progress and completion of the training program, the incumbent will be promoted to Student Services Professional II after 12 months.
    • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
