    University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Academic Advisor.

Applications will be accepted until 8/4/2023.

The Office of First Year Advising and Academic Initiatives at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for an Academic Advisor. First year advisors are responsible for advising a cohort of approximately 150 students through individual meetings, small group sessions, and other encounters both formal and informal.

Advisors also assist first-year students in developing those disciplines of the mind and heart that promote intellectual curiosity, integrative thinking, and independence. One of the overarching goals of Notre Dame's first-year experience is to enable students new to the University to gain a clear understanding of its disciplinary landscape as well as an appreciation of the intellectual values that animate a liberal education in the Catholic tradition. First Year Advising facilitates progress toward this objective by assisting first-year students in reaching nine specific milestones: i.e., to connect with our community; to have a vision of their aspirations; to manage their learning; to navigate our distinctive administrative and curricular landscape; to plan their studies; to evaluate their progress; to broaden their horizons; to reflect on their experiences; and to prepare for the future.

The more pragmatic aims of the advising process include academic program planning, schedule building, course selection, the monitoring of grades, and the mentoring of students as they make decisions about intended college and - when appropriate - disciplinary major. First Year advisors are the primary liaisons between first-year students and the University's undergraduate degree-granting colleges (Arts and Letters, Business, Engineering, and Science), the Schools of Architecture and Global Affairs, institutes, centers, and other academic units.

Advisors are also expected to contribute to those tasks shared by First Year Advising as a whole through regular participation in faculty and staff meetings, committee work, teaching first year experience courses and other special projects.

    • Masters degree or advanced certification beyond Bachelors.
