    Academic Advisor Job Summary:
    Simmons University is looking for an Academic Advisor ("Advisor") to join the Undergraduate Advising team. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Advising, the Advisor will be responsible for advising a caseload of first-year on campus students as well as supporting at-risk undergraduate on campus students on academic warning, academic probation, removed from degree candidacy (RDC), and students out of satisfactory academic progress (SAP). This advisor will also be a secondary advisor to first-year international students, co-manage the leave of absence student retention/outreach process, and act as a Starfish Administrator. As a member of the Office of Undergraduate Advising, the Academic Advisor will strive to support the University's core values by creating innovative ideas to promote the office, prepare students for life's work, and cross boundaries to create opportunities.

    The ideal candidate will possess strong time management, customer service, problem solving, interpersonal skills, technology savvy, and have experience supporting at-risk student populations.     Responsibilities

    Serve as the primary advisor for a caseload of first-year on campus students;

    Monitor and advise students to ensure satisfactory grades and GPA requirements, students understand academic policies, as well as course planning/registration;

    Be available to meet with students in person, over the phone, or virtually via Zoom throughout the year, through scheduled 1-on-1 appointments, group advising sessions, drop-in advising, and/or open office hour;

    Establishes and maintains ongoing contact with students through a variety of communication methods, including telephone, email, online workshops, e-newsletters, blogs, Zoom, and social media platforms

    Understand the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.;

    Stay abreast of changing institutional information including new programs, course changes, important dates, costs, and updates in university-wide initiatives and policies;

    Contribute to the organization and delivery of general programming for undergraduate students;

    Collaborate with campus partners to develop specialized programming initiatives to support at-risk student populations

    Co-Manage an intervention recovery program designed to help at-risk students with low GPAs and low credit completed percentages get back on track with their academics to achieve academic success (academic warning, academic probation, international student, removed from degree candidacy, and out of satisfactory academic progress)

    Develop and maintain a method to track data around retention and student success of at-risk students

    Co-manage the leave of absence outreach, student/data tracking and reinstatement process in collaboration with the Director, Assistant Director, and Success Coaches

    Focus on retention and support of at-risk students (leave of absence, withdrawal, academically at-risk, international students, Boston Scholars, etc.)

    Support academically at-risk students including those withdrawing from courses, off-track for timely graduation, not meeting satisfactory academic progress, and provide coaching and referrals as appropriate

    Become a Strengths Champion and utilize Strengths when advising at-risk students and students within their caseload

    Actively connect students to faculty and academic department advising, support services, and programming, to help students make the most of their experience

    Partner with the Center for Global Education to ensure international undergraduate students stay on track with academic program requirements and meet their visa academic requirements

    Utilize Workday daily when looking up student academic profiles, updating advisor assignments, pulling reports, etc.

    Collaborate with the Associate Director as a Starfish Administrator to conduct training, run reports, data entry, utilize new tools to measure the effectiveness and use of Starfish.

    Utilize Starfish to submit student notes from each advising session and manage flag alerts for at-risk student populations and students within your first-year advising caseload;

    Assist with updating and sending out Starfish progress surveys to faculty twice a semester (in line with course add/drop periods) or as needed.

    Assist in the implementation of advising and registration for incoming undergraduate students during each orientation session and June Advising Month;

    Attend weekly staff meetings and the Community of Practice (COP) for PLAN Advisors

    Represent Undergraduate Advising on the Administrative Board as an ad hoc member

    Develop and facilitate support and skill building workshops as needed

    Participate in departmental and campus wide committees as assigned

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree plus previous experience involving student contact in a student services role;

    Master's degree in a related field preferred.

    Experience utilizing Starfish or similar early alert tools is a plus

    Prior experience utilizing Clifton Strengths a plus

    Experience in connecting and building rapport with students;

    Excellent oral and written communication skills;

    Ability to successfully resolve student issues from request through resolution;

    Experience with Google mail a plus.
