• Assures competence of staff via in-services, per/post testing and/or return demonstration. Competency topic will be selected based on the needs identified in the facility assessment, QAPI, Abaqis, and based on regulatory compliance.
• Plans and Coordinates Fire Extinguisher Training through the Wheeling Fire Prevention Center for all new employees and annually.
• Plans and Coordinates mock codes to incorporate all shifts at least quarterly.
• Plans and Coordinates the Annual Disaster Drill. Responsible for educating staff on the Facility Disaster Plan. Reviews the Disaster Plan annually and submits changes to the Administrator for approval.
• Plans and Coordinates the Elopement Drills to incorporate all shifts at least quarterly.
• Organizes the Safety Committee Meetings and responsible for maintaining meeting minutes monthly.
• Develops a schedule for fire drills based on regulatory requirements and conducts drills with the assistance of the maintenance supervisor. These drills are to be conducted on all shifts. Maintains records of all fire drills.
• Responsible for coordinating Hospices Services, organizing compass meetings. Weekly audits on all hospice charts and does follow up with Hospice Agencies on any outstanding documents. Coordinates educational sessions with the Hospice Agencies.
• Coordinates special examinations that might be performed on residents, such as WLSU yearly dental screening.
• Maintains emergency suction machines monthly, checks each suction machine to ensure proper functioning and proper set up. Maintains documentation.
• Safety tours weekly and prepares reports for the Administrator and the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing
• Responsible for updating pharmacy orders/narcotics upon request of the pharmacy.
• Responsible for Point Click Care training with staff, responsible for implementing new PCC modules. Works with the staff to ensure any PCC issues are addressed and resolved timely. Updates and initiates new documentation UDAs in PCC. This will also include the Welty Home.
• Responsible for coordinating and Mandatory Inservice in the Spring and Fall to ensure that all staff have met the educational requirements per the State and Federal regulations.
• Offers Health Care Provider CPR and Heartsaver CPR to employees of the Welty Corporation monthly to ensure that all employees are compliant. Submits all documentation to Wheeling Hospital for CPR cards.
• Oxygen-responsible for working with Lincare to resolve any issues with the oxygen, equipment needs, defective equipment, and education.
• Responsible for ensuring all nursing equipment has been inspected yearly.
• Completes weekly unit review, competencies, audits, critical element pathways, medication administration and treatment observation.
• All other Job Duties as Assigned by the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing

Qualifications

Mental/Physical Requirements

• Ability to comprehend and implement state and federal regulations
• Ability to speak in a group setting
• Prolonged standing, intermittent periods of walking and/or sitting

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the state of West Virginia
• Geriatric Nursing experience
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff members
