    • The position description is to provide leadership and coordination for all students enrolled in secondary school agricultural education courses. To focus on excellence in classroom/laboratory instruction, supervised agricultural education experience and FFA student organization activities.
    • The position purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to explore hundreds of career options available in agriculture and to assist them in planning for future careers, to train students with the technical skills needed to be successful in an agricultural career; to connect school with the real world of work through work-based learning experiences through supervised agricultural experience programs; to offer students the leadership and personal development training needed to succeed in a career including, but not limited to, teamwork, problem-solving, analysis and communications; to enable students to compete in the global economy by increasing international understanding; to empower communities through developmental projects that involve students, parents, business leaders, civic organizations, school leaders and others.
    • The responsibilities of these positions include:

    Maintain an active advisory committee.

    Coordinate and supervise the development and growth of an SAE by every agriculture student.

    Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of students and agricultural industry.

    Coordinate a strong FFA chapter that correlates with the instructional program and in which all agriculture students are members and may participate.

    Develop strong, positive relationships with key agricultural education partners including, but not limited to, the guidance counselor(s), principal, superintendent, vocational director, county extension service leaders, agribusiness leaders, parents and other teachers.

    Develop a year-round calendar of activities that is approved by local school administrators. The calendar should include: SAE visits, FFA activities, professional development opportunities, agribusiness visits, etc.

    Join and be actively involved in various professional and civic organizations to ensure personal and professional growth.

    Develop and maintain a library of educational resources, textbooks, curriculum guides and other related resources to enhance their performance as a teacher.

    Provide career guidance for students interested in career opportunities in agriculture.

    Develop strong marketing, recruitment, retention and public relations efforts for encouraging all students to consider enrolling in agricultural education and joining FFA.

    Highlight student and program achievements for the local media, parents, school administrators, etc.

    Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies for the department.

    Ensure that all federal and state safety standards are met in the agricultural education facility.

    The qualifications must be fully or provisionally certified to teach agriculture.

    Salary/benefits are based upon education and teaching experience in accordance with state guidelines.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students; paraprofessionals as assigned; volunteers; other approved individuals within the instructional area.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, professional correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, students, staff, administration and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    Other Skills And Abilities

    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff and administration; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies. Ability to operate technology equipment as provided by the district.
