    This is a temporary position located in the Black Rock Desert outside of Gerlach, NV. This position will provide medical care at the 2024 Burning Man Event. These positions will staff the “Rampart” on-site treatment center which provides emergency department-level care. These positions are paid and require Nevada licensure. These positions require that the Pharmacist either have an active Nevada Board of Pharmacy license or the ability to obtain one before August 1st, 2024.

    These positions require a high degree of endurance, flexibility, and ability to adapt and cope well with a harsh desert environment and rugged living conditions. Burning Man medical staff are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event site and for the meals and housing off-shift. With prior notice, limited shared housing options and a staff camping area may be available.     Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
    • Manage the on-site Nevada licensed pharmacy at the Burning Man Emergency Care Center.
    • Dispense medications pursuant to a prescribers orders.
    • Provides patient education on medications
    • Interfaces as part of a multi-discplinary care team providing pharmacuetical guidance to physicians, nurses, and mid-levels.
    • Handle the stocking and management of pharmaceuticals (controlled substances and non-controlled substances).
    • Understands Royal's mission, values, and quality standards by effectively demonstrating these core concepts in all interactions.
    • Understands all applicable legal, moral, and ethical issues surrounding licensed pharmacist duties.
    • Remains calm while working in difficult and stressful situations, and stays focused while carrying out the functions of the position. 
    • Completes accurate documentation.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and other confidential information.
    • Identifies customer service opportunities through effective listening and through an understanding of the customers' needs.
    • Maintains a positive, courteous and respectful relationship with patients, customers, and team members.


    Minimum Requirments:
    • Age 18 or older
    • One year as a licensed pharmacist (PharmD )
    • Possess or can obtain a  Valid Nevada Pharmacist license by August 1st, 2024
    • TB Test and Flu Shot (within the last year) - Must provide copy
    • Immunization Records: Tdap, Varicella, HepB, and MMR (within last 10 years)
    • Complete prior to employment: ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, & IS 800
    • Complete a ninety-minute Burning Man Medical Orientation prior to hire date.
    • Must work a minimum of Four 12-hour shifts during the operational period.


    Preferred Requirments:
    • Recent/active experience as an outpatient pharmacist
    • Experience working as an Emergency Department Pharmacist
    • Prior Burning Man experience
    • Prior experience in a communal living and close quarters working environment


    Physical Requirements:
    • The Pharmacist is required to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.


    Occupational Safety Risk for Infection Control:
    • Risk to exposure from blood borne pathogens – 3 High Risk
