Animal Technician

Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Animal Research Facility Manager, the animal technician is responsible to properly care for and maintain lab animal facility. Provide care to research animals, including rodents and fish.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Experience and ability to keep clear and legible hand-written records.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to pass required IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Courses.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and academic breaks (Summer, Spring, Fall and Winter breaks).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a lab animal research facility
- Animal handling skills
Ability to follow proper lab sanitation guidelines

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 pounds; enroll in and pass the Universitys Respiratory Protection Program.
- Ability to perform required activities including: climbing and working from step stools, bending, stooping, and standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to feed, water, exercise (as needed) small animals and work in proximity to fur-bearing animals, birds, and amphibians.
Ability to work in rooms that are 80 degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 3 hours at a time.
