Animal Technician, Sr. jobs in Maryland

Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people and providing humane handling and care for all shelter animals. Assures all animals ' nutrition, housing, and basic medical needs are met on a daily basis. Assists the public when visiting our shelter residents and promotes responsible pet ownership in conversations with customers.

Applicants must be physically active, reliable, compassionate and willing to learn.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: Vet Tech and Animal Handling Experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Essential Functions:

• Maintains animals by feeding and watering animals; cleaning animals' rooms, cages, and equipment; changing cages; observing for clinical signs of disease.
• Cares for animals by taking vital signs; collecting samples; administering medications, drugs, and vaccines; bandaging and wrapping wounds; basic medical tests.
• Assist with animal intake, evaluation and treatment
• Walk dogs and rotate to outside play areas
• Able and willing to work holidays and weekends
• Assist customers who are interested in adopting. Responds to questions about specific animals and our adoption

Other Functions and Duties:

• Assist clients with animal adoption process; facilitate client/animal interactions to insure a safe and pleasant experience
• Work cooperatively with all volunteers, recognizing the talent and commitment they bring to our organization
• Performs continual maintenance duties to include repairs of equipment used and upkeep of shelter. Responsible for restocking

Pay: $15.20 per hour
