    Position Title: Creative Making Manager

    Reports to: Director of Learning, Engagement, and Belonging

    Summary: The Speed Art Museum seeks a creative-making manager to develop and lead a thriving and vibrant set of creative-making programs for all ages that are inclusive, relevant, and accessible to diverse audiences. This position also oversees operations, maintenance, and development of Art Sparks and Planet Preschool, the Speed’s interactive learning spaces, as well as the Prototype Lab and Classroom spaces. This position reports to the Director of Learning, Engagement, and Belonging (LE&B) but works closely with all members of the LE&B team and departments across the Museum.

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Salary Range: $42,000 - $45,000 annually

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement all aspects of the Museum’s creative-making programs, including pre-registered workshops and drop-in activities for family, youth, teen, university, and adult audiences to offer experiences for guests with a range of interests and experience levels that are inclusive, relevant, and accessible to diverse audiences.
    • Collaborate with the Director of LE&B and the Curatorial department to create offerings in support of special exhibitions and Speed permanent collection installations.
    • Support the exploration of the creative process through the development of programs that encourage decision-making, critical thinking, collaboration, and play.
    • Oversee the development, planning, and implementation of Summer Camps, including hiring camp contract instructors, staff, and assistants, implementation of Child Protection Policy in collaboration with the Protection Services team, ordering of materials, and all other day-to-day aspects of camps.
    • Lead content development, writing, and production responsibilities for Art Sparks and Planet Preschool stations and other offerings, keeping the space fresh and updated.
    • Develop evaluation tools to measure, document, and report on the impact of creative-making programs and experiences within Art Sparks, and Planet Preschool for Museum guests.
    • Recruit, schedule, and supervise Creative Making/Art Sparks staff members, contract teaching artists, and volunteers.
    • Maintain all aspects of budgets, attendance figures, photographs, statistics, and archive information for Creative Making Experiences and spaces.
    • Ensure proper care and storage of supplies, overseeing the organization and stock of fine art materials according to department needs.
    • Represents Creative Making/LE&B in cross-departmental planning meetings, including bi-weekly programming meetings, Big Idea meetings, and SPEX meetings, to learn about exhibitions and special projects that inform program development and share LE&B information.
    • Collaborates with the Philanthropy Department to identify fundraising opportunities, to secure funds for existing and new creative-making initiatives, and provide data for grant/donor reports.
    • Collaborates with the Marketing/Communications Department to develop resources, newsletters, advertisements, press coverage, and other promotional materials in a timely manner.
    • Collaborates with other LE&B department team members to develop events such as Family Days, Community Belonging programs, After Hours, gallery and creative making collaborative experiences, etc.
    • Some evening and weekend hours are required, including a minimum of one Saturday and one Sunday per month staffing Art Sparks.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications:

    • Three years of experience leading art-making workshops with children and adults or teaching in a museum or classroom setting is required.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in art education, studio arts, art history, museum education, or equivalent preferred.
    • Management experience preferred.

    • Ability to function independently and be flexible for interruptions and changing priorities.

    • Creative Making Coordinator(s)


    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    • Stand or walk 2-4 hours at one time, up to 8 hours per-day.
    • Sits, reaches, walks, climbs, and lifts intermittently throughout the workday so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
    • Communicates using the English language.
    • Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
    • Able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., of twenty-five (25) pounds throughout the workday.
    • Able to adapt to and work from various locations so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
    • Willing, as necessary, to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and remain accessible when away from the Museum so the requirements of this position can be fully met.


    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time exempt position. This position is NOT eligible for overtime pay
