    Athletic and Activities Director 

     

    Job Summary

    The Athletic and Activities Director coordinates, monitors, schedules and supervises all activity, clubs and athletic groups and events for Aztec High School and Koogler Middle School . 

     

    Reports To:  The Aztec Municipal School District Superintendent 

     

     Qualifications

    1. Masters Degree in Education Administration 
    2. New Mexico Certification in Education Administration Level 3B
    3. Must complete a finger-print background check 

     

    Desired Qualifications 

    1. 3 years of teaching experience at the secondary level
    2. Coaching experience
    3. Successful applicant will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
    • Staff relations, including, but not limited to, the development and use of skills necessary to make a positive use of Department Chair Team, to manage faculty and staff with courtesy and mutual respect, coach and motivate employees and to build consensus as a means of management;
    • School community leadership qualities, including, but not limited to, the ability to organize and leverage community initiative, communicate effectively, work effectively with local school improvement committees, manage change, resolve conflict and reflect the highest personal values;
    • Educational proficiencies, including, but not limited to, knowledge of curriculum, behavioral management, and instructional/coaching techniques, student learning styles, school personnel/coach performance, evaluation skills and family issues; and Data Driven Instructional Practices
    • Administrative skills, including, but not limited to, organizational, fiscal, public policy and continuous improvement strategies and techniques.
    • Knowledge of Data Driven Instructional Practices and Professional Learning Communities

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Demonstrate cognitive skills to gather, analyze and synthesize information to reach goals.
    2. Manage group behaviors to achieve consensus.
    3. Enhance quality of total school athletic and activity organization.
    4. Organize and delegate to accomplish goals.
    5. Communicate effectively.
    6. Assume responsibility for assisting in the general supervision of all school activities involving pupils, teachers, and other school personnel.
    7. Assist in establishing and maintaining an effective learning, activity, and athletic climate in the school.
    8. Assist in the provision of athletic and activity discipline.
    9. Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline according to due process for the rights of students.
    10. Safeguard and maintain school records in areas such as discipline and grades.
    11. Monitor and ensure that all guidelines, regulations and policies as established by the NMAA are followed.
    12. Promote the concepts and ideals found in the NMAA’s program and the Aztec Municipal School’s Athletics & Activities Code of ethics and Handbook. 
    13. Uphold the idea that all clubs and activities, coaches, sponsors, athletes and participants will demonstrate the highest levels of honor and achievement while pursuing victory with honor according to these core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship.
    14. Scheduling of Facilities for use and maintenance.
    15. Hire, assist with training, and supervise coaches and assistant coaches. 
    16. Ensure that events are appropriately staffed. 
    17. Other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This position supervises coaches, activity sponsors, athletes, participants and other staff as assigned by the Superintendent.

    • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid driver’s license
    • Must possess a current New Mexico Administrators level 3B license

     

    Terms of Employment  

    Appropriate placement on the AMSD Salary Schedule and the Aztec School District Calendar.

     

    Evaluation

    Performance of duties will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy.

     

    Physical Rating Level

    This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes.  “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.  For Physical Requirement Details, contact Aztec Municipal Schools.
