Basic Functions
QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking applicants who share our passion for finding solutions to protect our resources and environment through innovative research and education focused on the future leaders of engineering. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: air quality, environmental remediation, innovative water treatment and reclamation technologies; green technologies and alternative energy; use and reuse systems at their nexus with energy, the environment, and health. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant research program involving undergraduates and to teach of a range of introductory to upper-level undergraduate environmental engineering courses, as well as general engineering courses as needed. Doctoral degree in environmental engineering or closely related field is required.
The Department of Computer Science, Physics and Engineering is committed to providing the education, ideas, and solutions needed to create a more sustainable world and fostering a pipeline for African-American students into the engineering fields. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY- Teach lower and upper-level environmental engineering courses, as well as general engineering courses, that align with professional expertise and the needs of the department;
- Participate in curriculum development and contribute to the department’s planning and growth;
- Advise students and providing individual help to students during weekly office hours;
- Provide academic and career advising to students in the major;
- Establish an active undergraduate research program;
- Perform regular scholarly research and publication;
- Assist with students recruitment and retention;
- Provide service to the department, school, college, community, and profession;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to teach lower and upper-level undergraduate environmental engineering courses
- Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Effective instructional delivery;
- Proficient in the use of instructional technology;
- Ability to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom;
- Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or closely related field
