The University of New Mexico, Office of the University Controller, also known as Financial Services, located on Main Campus is responsible for all central accounting functions for the University.
It is the responsibility of the Controller's Office aka Financial Services to ensure compliance with all financial policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the University or imposed by external agencies, including state and federal audit requirements, following generally accepted accounting practices. Additionally, the Controller's Office oversees the maintenance of the official financial records of the University.
Within Financial Services, The Bursar’s Office is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Admin Assistant 2. The successful candidate will report to the Bursar and serve as administrative support for the department’s leadership team. Tasks will include scheduling various internal/external meetings, purchasing, serving as a P-Card holder, processing reimbursements and transactions, purchase office supplies, airline tickets, hotel reservations, coordinate and take minutes at meetings, assisting with database management, helping with event coordination set-up/breakdown for meetings/trainings, maintaining the department web pages and staff directory, plus other duties as assigned. The individual selected for this role will be able to communicate with a variety of team members each day, keeping a variety of tasks organized and prioritized, and will be an essential member of a busy, exciting department.
The Bursar’s Office includes both Student Accounting and the Cashier Department. It serves the entire University, including main, branch, and HSC campuses with the primary focus on customer service. Student Accounting is responsible for tuition and fee assessment, processing of all electronic and hard-copy statements, refunding of financial aid, reconciliation of loan funds, assisting students with questions concerning their accounts and the collection of outstanding debt. Over $171 million in tuition and fee revenue, and $11.7 million in MarketPlace Revenue is processed through this office. Additionally, approximately 44,000 financial aid refunds totaling over $86 million are processed. The Bursar's Office is held to high standards of confidentiality under FERPA, as well as UNM policy, U.S. military policies surrounding grants, IRS, and numerous other agencies, governmental and private.
This position requires an individual who has strong attention to detail, excellent communications skills, is a self-starter, and can work effectively as a member of a team and as an individual. An ability to set and manage priorities, adapt to change and last-minute work assignments and knowledge of policies and procedures in working with confidential files/records is essential.
