Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of Arts and Sciences. The Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • The Dean of the College of Health Sciences (COHS) oversees all academic programs within the College of Health Sciences including: Associate of Science in Nursing; RN-BSN Completion; Integrated Health Sciences with concentrations in Pre-Allied Health and Exercise Science; and any additional programs as developed by the College and approved by the Institution/BOR where appropriate. The Dean of COHS reports directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and collaborates with other Deans and faculty across campus to create innovative, interdisciplinary opportunities for Northern students. The Dean of COHS oversees accreditation readiness in both Nursing and Exercise Science; develops and manages the COHS budget; engages with external partners in developing articulation agreements, forming partnerships, and fund raising; and works with faculty within COHS to develop, assess, and update a college-level strategic plan and create innovative curriculum and programming.
    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Serve as the chief academic officer for the College
    • Collaborate with faculty within COHS to develop, assess, and update a college-level strategic plan
    • Engage in evidence-based decision making with respect to the use of COHS resources and student outcomes
    • Develop and administer College budget allocation and other long-range planning details to achieve College and University objectives
    • Seek out, identify, and pursue external funding to enhance resources available for programmatic offerings
    • Serve as primary contact for, and develop relationships with, business, industry, other educational providers, and community agencies
    • Expand COHS programming to address emerging needs within health sciences-related industries
    • Increase diversity programming and academic opportunities for minority populations including, but not limited to, Native Americans and international populations
    • Maintain open communication with clinical agencies and state/national accreditation agencies to ensure proper program administration structures are in place, programs are up to date, and that there is continuous improvement in student training and placement
    • Recommend faculty appointments to the Provost and provide input on all full-time and part-time COHS instructors, and CRRNS
    • Orient, guide, assign, and evaluate all COHS staff according to the relevant collective bargaining agreement and University policy
    • Serve as an impartial point of contact for student, staff, and faculty inquiries and concerns
    • Foster the professional development of students and faculty (e.g., encouraging and, where appropriate, budgeting for in-service and conference attendance; hosting career readiness workshops offered through industry partners)
    • Review and revise the University catalog pertaining to all College-level programming each year
    • Review and revise the websites of the COHS and each COHS program to ensure readability, accuracy, and relevancy and to increase marketability
    • Spearhead the development of, and implement innovations in, the recruitment of students into all programs within COHS
    • Interpret and implement the administration policies, rules, regulations, and recommendations of the College, the University, and relevant external program-specific oversight bodies
    • Prepare and submit all reporting required for initial or continued accreditation of programs within the College or by state or federal agencies
    • Attend faculty/staff meetings to stay up to date regarding University procedures and regulations and to provide College-level information and feedback to representatives and leaders from the broader campus community
    • Participate in shared governance and University committee work, as necessary
    • Attend State and System-level meetings and meetings of external boards and associations, as appropriate
    • Actively participate in institution-level fund raising activities and strategic planning with a focus on university growth
    • Demonstrate ethical behavior at all times
    • Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Provost
    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • Doctoral degree in a field represented by, or closely related to, one of the programs within the College of Health Sciences; ABD candidates considered
    • Successful experience in progressively responsible administrative positions in higher education or a healthcare-related environment
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the pursuit of an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment

    • Ability to develop and enhance relationships with alumni and other external constituencies
    • Ability to generate resources through partnering, grant writing, and fundraising

    • Experience with program assessment and accreditation

    • A proven commitment to the recruitment and retention of outstanding and diverse faculty and students
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment overseeing and managing major projects, multiple priorities, and deadlines
    • Successful experience with establishing and/or maintaining community partnerships
    • Experience collaborating with tribal communities
    • Experience with union/collective bargaining units
    • Meets the requirements to sit as the primary administrator for one or more of the accredited programs in the College

    Title IX Coordinator

    The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX. The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy. Specifically, the Title IX Coordinator:
    • Coordinates educational programs and trainings regarding discrimination and harassment prevention for students and employees;
