Landscape Architect

  • GLMV Landscape Architects collaborate with clients, architects, site designers, and civil engineers as they design site improvements for public and private architectural and civil projects throughout the United States. Our Landscape Architects are an integral component to project vision, ideation, and creation from concept to completion. As a Landscape Architect at GLMV, you will have concurrent project assignments requiring daily interaction with client representatives, code officials and external project partners. Landscape Architects will also be engaged in training, mentoring, and supervising less experienced design professionals to resolve technical challenges, plan and manage their time, and deliver projects on time and within budget. They will contribute to project cost projections, quality control and stamping drawings. Identifying and cultivating relationships that lead to new projects is part of this role. Some travel will be required for site analysis, documentation, and assessment of existing conditions, as well as construction administration tasks. This position will report to the Site Division Lead.

    Responsibilities
    • Meet with clients, analyze their goals, and conceive and develop solutions to those goals.
    • Create and present schematic site designs and plans.
    • Plan the project budget, milestones, and schedule and track project performance accordingly
    • Coordinate workload for design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule.
    • Plan, prepare, and check construction documents.
    • Supervise less experienced staff in the preparation of construction documents.
    • Direct and coordinate with the engineering disciplines and third-party equipment vendors, reviewing construction documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
    • Prepare project specifications.
    • Plan, initiate, and run project meetings, setting agendas, and issuing meeting minutes
    • Ensure code and accessibility compliance utilizing several competing and often conflicting building, life safety, health, and accessibility codes.
    • Coordinates addendum, ASI, RFIs, WCPRs and Change Orders and is responsible to incorporate agreed upon changes into the project documents.
    • Provide construction administration services.
    • Approve or negotiate pay applications and change orders
    • Report project completion for billing and approve invoices.
    • Provide mentorship, supervision, consultation, and guidance to others as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Thorough knowledge of landscape design considerations and trends.
    • Strong knowledge of heath department and building codes and accessibility requirements and their interstate variances.
    • Knowledge of varying design parameters set by community agreement requirements and neighborhood adaptations.
    • Ability to instill confidence.
    • Ability to delegate work and be accountable for it.
    • Ability to relate well to others at all levels and use diplomacy and tact
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely in English
    • Ability to start and complete projects independently, using time effectively and efficiently, and managing multiple priorities
    • Ability to cope with change and shifting priorities
    • Ability to handle risk and uncertainty enough to make a decision and act without having the total picture.
    • Physical requirements essential in the job include: visual acuity to create, evaluate and modify construction drawings using digital tools and printed on paper; manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and mouse efficiently and effectively; ability to communicate orally and in writing using a variety of computer based audio-visual tools; and lift, carry, push, pull computer equipment or supplies weighing up to 15 pounds moderate distances, with or without aids, as frequently as daily.

    Experience and Credentials
    • Bachelors or Master of Landscape Architecture degree from an ASLA accredited program.
    • Currently licensed in one U.S. state and is in good standing.
    • 10 or more years of experience that includes site development, site master planning, parking, irrigation, landscape and hardscape planning and design, production of construction drawings, collaboration with project team members internally and externally to the organization, mentorship of less experienced staff, and client contact.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
    • Comprehensive knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, LandFX, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, as used to convey project visuals and deliverables.
    • Multi-state experience preferred
    Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
