  • Wiley University is seeking an Instructor of Foreign Languages. Preference will be given to candidates with Masters degree in Spanish. The Instructor of Foreign Languages (Spanish) at Wiley University is a full-time position responsible for teaching and developing co-requisite Spanish courses. The successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in language instruction, curriculum development, and fostering a dynamic learning environment within the General Education department. The Instructor of Foreign Languages reports to the Dean of Education and Sciences and works closely with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to advance the department's mission and goals.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:

    • Develop and deliver undergraduate Spanish language courses, including co-requisite Spanish courses, designed to enhance students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
    • Utilize communicative and task-based teaching methods, cultural immersion activities, and authentic materials to facilitate language acquisition and intercultural competence.
    • Provide constructive feedback on students' language performance and assess their progress using a variety of assessment methods.
    • Design and develop curriculum materials, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments for co-requisite Spanish courses, ensuring alignment with departmental learning objectives, proficiency standards, and best practices in language instruction.
    • Maintain regular office hours as required by the department.
    • Integrate language learning strategies, cultural content, and technology-enhanced activities into course content to support students' language development and cultural understanding.
    • Integrate the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills into co-requisite Spanish courses, emphasizing the communicative and functional aspects of language use. Incorporate authentic language materials, multimedia resources, and real-world contexts to enhance students' language proficiency and cultural competence.
    • Foster opportunities for meaningful interaction and collaboration in the target language both inside and outside the classroom.
    • Provide academic support and mentoring to students enrolled in co-requisite Spanish courses, including those with diverse language backgrounds, learning needs, and proficiency levels.
    • Offer individualized language coaching, tutoring sessions, and conversation practice to help students improve their language skills and confidence in Spanish.
    • Collaborate with the tutoring center and international programs to provide additional resources and support to students.
    • Engage in professional development activities, such as language teaching workshops, pedagogical training, and proficiency assessments, to enhance teaching effectiveness and stay current with developments in language education.
    • Participate in conferences, seminars, and professional organizations related to language teaching and learning.
    • Contribute to the scholarship of language education through research projects, presentations, and publications.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A Master's degree or equivalent in Spanish, Foreign Languages, Applied Linguistics, or a related field from an accredited institution. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and demonstrated expertise in language teaching methodology, curriculum design, and proficiency assessment. Experience teaching Spanish language courses at the college or university level, preferably with experience in developing co-requisite courses or language programs. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and language support staff. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in language instruction and student support services.
