Status: Full Time - 9 Month Position
Position Summary
Assistant or Associate Professor in Psychology, 9-month, tenure-track position in the School of Education and Human Sciences, Campbell University. Engaging, technologically savvy, student-focused person needed. Available to start August 2024.
Courses taught may include courses in the major as well as psychology elective and/or laboratory courses depending on the candidate's interests and background. The teaching load is four 3-credit courses each semester (fall and spring). The faculty member is expected to be scholarly active and to engage in service activities in support of the department, university, and profession. The primary function of the faculty member is to teach students, research the truth, and serve the community, all of which grow out of their presence in a community of Christian scholars. The position is housed within the Psychology department, in the School of Education and Human Sciences.
Collegiality and campus presence is expected. The department has an active psychology club and Psi Chi honor society and annually hosts one of the largest undergraduate research conferences in the US – the Carolinas Psychology Conference. The position is a nine-month, tenure-track position. Will consider excellent ABD candidates (who will complete their Ph.D. within 12 months) at the instructor rank, to be promoted to assistant professor upon completion of doctorate. This is an in-person position, with face-to-face teaching required.

- Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g. student course evaluations, peer review of teaching, sample syllabus and assignment).
Teaching & Advising- Prepare a syllabus, with all the required elements, for your courses.
- Update course material regularly to maintain currency in the field.
- Select and administer assignments and tests that measure student mastery of the course learning objectives.
- Post grades to Campbell’s Self-Service portal by requested deadlines.
- Maintain campus presence, including at least six office hours per week.
- Advisement is a form of counseling and thus part of the teaching role and one of the main concerns of the faculty should be timely, reliable, and caring advice.
- Support students by advising, writing letters of recommendation, helping with career preparation, and other appropriate activities.
- Remain current in their field of expertise, which may include summer development work and course preparation through on-going professional development.
- Develop a scholarly agenda appropriate for the discipline and position, in consultation with the department chair.
- Attend regular and special faculty meetings, including department meetings.
- Advise or support student activities such as Psi Chi, the Psychology Club, and the Carolinas Psychology Conference.
- Serve on college standing committees, ad hoc committees and/or working groups.
- Attend Convocation and Commencement ceremonies, and process in regalia as required.
- Curricular development of courses and programs as appropriate in consultation with the department chair.
- Engage in service to the profession as appropriate.
- Prepare annual review of performance, due by May 15.
- Respond promptly, no later than one business day, to student emails and requests for assistance.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security, including, but not limited to FERPA and other state and federal mandates.
- A terminal degree in Psychology, from an APA accredited program at a regionally accredited university.
- Expertise in psychology.
- Successful higher education teaching experience.
- Certification in online instructional design, e.g., Quality Matters, Powell; or willingness to become Powell Certified via university training program.
- Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
- Demonstrated record for outstanding teaching and dedication to student learning.
- Ability to use (or learn) Blackboard, our learning management system, for grading, student communication, and assignments.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and standard methods of digital communication such as web/chat/text platforms.
- Comprehensive computer skills including the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology and software.
- Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials and the public.
- Work independently and function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
- Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines, like course grade due dates, and attention to detail.
- Accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
