Bankruptcy Specialist is responsible for the documentation and filing of loan bankruptcy materials with the appropriate attorneys. Ensures full compliance with loan bankruptcy regulations. Being a Bankruptcy Specialist monitors accounts throughout the loan bankruptcy process and contacts appropriate party when necessary. Verifies the bankruptcy is secured and acquires a copy of the proposed Chapter 13 Plan on all secured accounts. Additionally, Bankruptcy Specialist captures Chapter 7 reaffirmation agreements to management for approval. Distributes account balances and interest rates to the secured and unsecured balances. Stays current with changing state specific bankruptcy laws. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Bankruptcy Specialist works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. To be a Bankruptcy Specialist typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Bankruptcy Associate to join our consumer bankruptcy practice. The successful candidate must have at least two years of experience in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases. Extremely competitive salary plus benefits. We will also consider an established attorney with an existing consumer bankruptcy practice for unique opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing bankruptcy petitions and schedules
- Drafting Chapter 13 Plans, as well as Amended Plans
- Preparing for and attending Meetings of Creditors, Confirmation Hearings, and related motions hearings, etc.
- Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and pleadings
- Review and analyze legal documents for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain organized case files and documentation
- Collaborate with attorneys and other team members on various projects
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings and managing calendars
- Work with clients, trustees, court personnel and creditor's attorneys
Skills:
- Proficient in the use of BestCase, Word, Outlook, and other necessary programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Familiarity with legal administrative procedures
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
- Membership (or eligibility for membership) in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
