Scope and General Purpose
The Banquet Captain position requires operations in all aspects of a banquet or event,
including set-up, food presentation, serving, and cleanup while focusing on detail and quality presentation and customer service. Banquet managers are also required to supervise personnel, assign tasks, ensure facilities are clean, and coordinate service details.
Essential Duties
1. Practices customer service behaviors, such as listening, initiative, responsiveness, cheerfulness, accommodation, courtesy, honesty, and professionalism
2. Demonstrates effective communication skills and helps ensure optimum communication between all shifts, departments, and management
3. Makes decisions in the best interests of the property and in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures
4. Approaches all encounters with guests and colleagues in a friendly, service-oriented manner
5. Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, development, discipline, and supervision all banquet staff
6. Maintains constant communication with guests and on-site contact to ensure all expectations are met or exceeded
7. Remains alert of complaints and/or unsatisfied guests and responds appropriately to ensure guest satisfaction
8. Coordinates with other staff and departments to arrange for the delivery of requested services
9. Ensures all functions are set and staff is prepared and organized before required time on BEO
10. Inspects table place settings, including table linen, china, glass, silverware and condiments for correct placement and ensures that each element is clean, undamaged and attractive
11. Ensures proper setting of buffet tables and other food service tables
12. Arranges for and ensures proper sequence of service for each event
13. Monitors banquet team members to ensure all operating procedures are followed
14. Supervises clearing and post function cleanup and garbage removal
15. Maintains clean and orderly back areas, pre-function areas and storage areas
16. Assures that all china, glassware, silverware, linen, etc. are returned to their proper locations after each event
17. Supervises the handling, storage, and security of all catering service equipment
18. Meticulously plans events with management to ensure execution is achieved at the highest level
19. Abides by all rules of Hawkeye Hotels and the brand
20. Attends and participates in staff meetings, safety meetings, training classes, etc
21. Performs all other duties assigned
