Position: Barista

Position Summary: The main functions of the Barista are to create a quality of beverages and products, while maintaining a clean and comfortable work environment. In addition, they are to accept payment for food, beverages, and miscellaneous items purchased while insuring that guests receive a high degree of satisfactory service.

Accountabilities: The Barista must reconcile payment for food and beverage consumed in the coffee shop. He or she is responsible for any bank issued. The Barista is responsible for keeping and following health standards when preparing and/or serving the different drinks and products sold.

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent certificate preferred
• Customer Service experience preferred
• At least one year of experience as a Barista or related position preferred
• Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills

Tools & Equipment:

• Calculator, computer, copier, other office equipment
• Credit card authorization machine, cash register, Telephone
• Espresso machine, coffee beans, juice machine, glassware

Work Environment:

• Under variable temperature conditions
• Under variable noise levels
• Outdoors/Indoors
• Around chemicals, fumes and or odor hazards
• Around dust and or mite hazards

Physical Requirements:

• Long hours sometimes required
• Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
• Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels
• Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range
• Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms
• Must be able to stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time
• Occasional stooping, kneeling or crawling
• Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine
• Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work around bar area

• Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary

• Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure
• Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from multiple sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need
• Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests
• Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions
• Multi-lingual skills helpful

Duties & Functions

Essential:

• Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
• Maintain regular attendance in compliance with New Castle standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working
• Comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations
• Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his or her attention
• Attend department meetings on a regular basis
• Serve guest in a timely accurate manner
• Insure compliance with all local liquor laws, and health & sanitation regulations
• Collect room charge, money or credit cards from guests and make change
• Operate credit card approval machine
• Prepare cashier report at end of shift
• Insure area is kept clean and organized at all times
• Rotate stock when restocking as trained
• Review VIP list
• Review daily event list
• Communicate with Kitchen on F&B necessary to operate throughout the shift
• Be up to date on all guest services, promotions and events in the Hotel
• Successfully complete close out reports, drop cash, receipts and reports at the end of shift

Marginal

• Other duties as required
• Knowledge of F&B procedures and serving standards
• Health Department rules and regulations
• Participation in hotel and department meetings as requested

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 per hour
