Position Objective: Provide services as a Biostatistician in support of the overall functions of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide biostatistical expertise for the research study. 1
- Analyze, interpret, communicate and document epidemiologic data and results.
- Communicate research findings, disseminate public information and respond to relevant inquiries.
- Provide analytic results using standard statistical procedures, including descriptive statistics, rate standardization, stratification of data and model building (logistic regression, conditional logistic regression, Cox regression) using SAS, Stata, Epicure, and similar statistical software programs. 2
- Collaborate and work with a team of researchers to develop, iterate and execute innovative strategies for genomic data integration and modeling/prediction.
- Work with branch staff and research training fellows to provide statistical support for studies based on existing data sets; work with staff to assemble data sets for these purposes. 3
- Perform descriptive and missing data analysis.
- Applies a variety of data reduction techniques.
- Prepare summaries and reports for staff review.
- Write statistical sections in manuscripts; work with research staff to interpret referees’ comments on manuscripts. 4
- Provide description of statistical methods in manuscripts; work with research staff to respond to and interpret referees’ comments. 5

- Participate in and contribute to different aspects of the research study through study planning, decision-making, problem-solving and strategic analysis.
- Perform descriptive and missing data analysis.

- Conduct relevant literature reviews and collaborate on relevant research publications.
- Provide literature review related to analyses used in comparable studies.
- Provide consultation on use of statistical methods and software packages to other staff.
- Perform and present statistical analyses (e.g., cross-sectional, longitudinal and survival analyses) and data visualization (publication quality) using statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, or Stata) in collaboration with PI, staff and outside collaborators of the Multimodal Imaging Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) Unit.
- Collaborate with project leaders and staff on data analysis and data management on various large datasets.
- Provide statistical support and informal statistical training for postdoctoral and postbaccalaureate fellows.
- Work with project leaders and staff to maintain neuroimaging, cognitive, proteomic, and other databases.
- Collaborate with PIs and staff on manuscript and grant preparation, study design, and preparation of progress reports (as an active co-author).
- Present analysis results and data visualization at laboratory meetings.
- Work products and documents related to performing and presenting statistical analyses and data visualization using statistical software packages in collaboration with PI, staff and outside collaborators of the MIND Unit. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to working with team on data analysis and data coordination on various large datasets. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to working with staff on research coordination of projects within the MIND Unit and with outside collaborators and institutions. - Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to working with PI and staff on the design of experiments, routine progress reports and manuscript preparation; presenting analysis results and data visualization at laboratory meetings. - Ad-Hoc
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in data science, biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistics and decision science, biology, or a related discipline.
- Skilled in MS Office Suite and R for statistical analyses.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
