Biostatistician conducts statistical studies to generate data and insights used to innovate, plan and support improved healthcare outcomes and processes. Prepares analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. Being a Biostatistician writes specifications for files, consistency checks, tables, and calculations used to collect and analyzes data from a variety of sources. Interprets analyses and prepares exhibits for reports and presentations. Additionally, Biostatistician interfaces with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficient with statistical computer applications like SAS and R. Typically requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biostatistician occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     The University of New Mexico Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) invites applications for a non-clinical, master's-level staff biostatistician to support clinical and translational research.

    The CTSC is a Health Sciences Center initiative to integrate and expand the reach of clinical medical research from the laboratory to clinical and medical practice: promoting a bench to bedside to community effort. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) promotes this emphasis on clinical and translational research nationally, to facilitate the expansion of clinical research, the training of clinical researchers, and the emergence of community voice in the direction and implementation of clinical research.

    The primary role of the Biostatistician will be to provide biostatistical support to researchers and ongoing research programs.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    * Work with investigators to develop analysis plans including choices of analysis methods, specification of measurements and models

    * Provide data analysis support to research projects including performing standard statistical analyses as well as more advanced analyses using generalized linear regression and generalized linear mixed models

    * Assist with and conduct sample size and/or power analyses for common study designs and analyses

    * Assist with the design of clinical trials, prospective cohort studies, and retrospective observational studies

    * Communicate and interpret results of statistical analysis to investigators

    * Assist with manuscript and grant preparation

    * Represent CTSC Biostatistics group on clinical and pre-clinical project teams as required

    * Participate in the conduct of clinical trials, including analysis of data safety and monitoring reporting

    * Interacts with and support team members across functional areas

    * Interact with external collaborators and statistical consultants

    * Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

    TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 05/31/2024; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The CTSC is a grant funded facility and the CTSC grant has been renewed for another 5-year award.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications

    * Demonstrated experience in clinical, biological, or health research

    * Excellent communication skills

    * Experience supporting investigators in a consultation setting

    * Experience in conducting advanced statistical analyses such as survival analysis, longitudinal data, missing data.

    * Experience in peer-reviewed publication
