    JOB SUMMARY

    This position performs technical accounting duties in support of department operations.

    MAJOR DUTIES

    Taking on the task of assisting with retention.Proactively coordinating with Student Affairs to call students with financial holds.
    Coordinating with Financial Aid to determine award and develop flexible payment plans.
    Advising students on their financial situation to prevent enrollment issues.
    Billing for Barnes and Noble, reconciling Auxiliary invoicing to the AR.
    Advise and assist students, parents and external customers concerning financial obligations to the University.
    Use independent judgment to negotiate payment arrangements for delinquent student accounts who would like a deferment of hold.
    Maintain and update student tuition and fee rates in Banner.
    Collects, verifies, and maintains all third party contracts and applies to student accounts.
    Determines eligibility for exemptions and applies all exemptions to student accounts.
    Invoices third party entities based on terms in contract.Terms vary per contract.
    Perform related duties.

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

    Knowledge of financial aid and related federal regulations.
    Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Bankruptcy Law.

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

    The Bursar assigns work in terms of general instructions, requiring the use of judgment. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

    GUIDELINES

    Guidelines include generally accepted accounting principles, financial aid rules and regulations, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act guidelines (FERPA), IRS guidelines for 1098T processing, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Bankruptcy Law, and department and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

    COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

    The work consists of varied administration and technical accounting duties. Strict regulations, the need for accuracy, and frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.

    The purpose of this position is to provide technical accounting support for department operations.Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.

    The work is typically performed in an office.

    SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

    None.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

    Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with a minimum of two years of experience or service.

    Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.

    Annual salary $34,346.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
