Responsible and accountable for operating a school bus using prescribed safety procedures to safeguard the well-being of all passengers. Able to perform the functional operations of the transportation services department to account for all student passengers and their needs on a school bus. Responsible and accountable in preventative maintenance practices, cleaning procedures of school bus, and safety inspections involved in the operation of a school bus.Individual must achieve the following outcomes and perform the following responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of a Unified Transportation System.
- Upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Complies with District/Department rules, procedures, administrative directives and state statutes concerning the confidentiality of personnel, student, and other district information.
- Articulates and implements district/department mission and goals.
- Pursues the self-actualization of character attributes as an employee of the district and assists the site staff in the maintenance of student discipline in accordance with district policy and procedures.
- Observes federal and state statutes and regulations, board policy and procedures in all personnel regulations and procedures pertaining to transportation services personnel.
- Maintains all required certification through training programs of the New Mexico Pupil Transportation Institute.
- Complies with all regulations involving the New Mexico Standards for School Bus Operations.
- Maintains required first aid certification.
- Practices appropriate supervision and management techniques to establish and maintain a safe and secure, peaceful environment on the school bus and within bus loading and unloading areas for all students and other clients.
- Practices customer service procedures as outlined by the transportation services department.
- Follows all route protocols of established and authorized bus routes.
- As needed, assists in the physical inventory of transportation services’ supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Practices all required preventive maintenance and cleaning procedures and responsibilities.
- Conducts all required safety inspections at the specified time intervals as designated by the transportation services operations manual or the transportation services coordinator.
- Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Utilizes available technology to meet transportation services performance objectives.
- Develops and promotes positive school/community relations.
- Is responsible for the observance and practice of site and/or department day-to-day and/or emergency safety operations in conjunction with transportation services regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
- Coordinates with school and site operations as directed by the transportation services coordinator in conjunction with the responsibilities of the building principal or site manager when performed on a school campus or departmental site.
- Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals.
- Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Attends staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
- Implements the objectives of Total Quality Management as the transportation services are related to the school district.
- Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

· High school diploma or GED certificate.
· Valid and current New Mexico commercial drivers license (CDL Class B).
· Health certificate prescribed by Board of Education and State Department of Education School Transportation Division.
· Current First Aid certification.
· No prior convictions as specified in SDE New Mexico Standards for School Bus Operations
· Knowledge of organizational pattern of the school district and the geographical location of its constituency.
· Demonstrated knowledge and application of defensive driving practices.
· Physical abilities to perform the physical tasks required of this position.
· Able to use technology to perform transportation services departmental responsibilities.
· Uses effective people skills to communicate.

- The employee must be able to push, pull or lift unassisted fifty (50) pounds in providing supplementary service to limited mobility students.
- The employee must be able to move materials and objects, which require bending, stooping and lifting.
- The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.
- The employee must be able to tolerate positional requirements for traveling from 2 to 4 hours daily.
- The employee must be able to use hands, fingers and feet to operate seat belts, foot and hand controls of a bus, tools, and other type of controls.
- The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time.
- The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
- The employee must be able to move about assigned locations unaided during the day.
