Job Description
Major Accountabilities:
- Leads activities related to the development of new products (from laboratory studies to upscaling processes for manufacturing and transfers these processes to production)
- Develops and applies complex concepts and proposes new and unique approaches, methods and processes requiring ingenuity, creativity and originality
- Provides technical and organizational direction on one or more projects of major importance where the complexity of technical problems requires the application of advance knowledge and coordination of multiple resources across teams
- Collaborates across functions (including Engineering, Development, Research and Production) to obtain customer input, develop the process, overcome challenges, evaluate results, provide recommendations and create implementation plans
- Uses intermediate level of technical and organizational expertise to evaluate options and identify the most appropriate option to select for technical issues, process issues or process improvements
- Creates plans and timelines for the team and ensures that these are met by resolving technical and process issues
Additional Accountabilities:
- Requires an awareness of the workings of the business beyond own team and some familiarity with the external environment as it affects own part of the organization
- Applies intermediate level principles of engineering and / or chemistry analysis, blends technical knowledge and manufacturing practices in providing solutions to process development
- Acts as a mentor within the engineering organization
- Positive attitude with good interpersonal skills and ability to support a team environment
- Ensures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work
- Designs, executes and analyzes Engineering Studies to be performed in the lab, pilot line and MTO production lines in areas including, but not limited to: Measurement System Evaluation (MSE, GR&R), Component of Variation Studies (COV) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Documents study designs using graphical sampling plans and Factor Relationship Diagrams (FRDs)
- Documents process knowledge and process investigations using Thought Maps and Process Maps
- Performs data analysis including process performance index (Ppk), ANOVA, regression, Chi-square, etc.
Skills / Experience:
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experience in high-speed manufacturing
- Experience leading others (preferred)
- Work experience in FDA regulated industry, specifically medical devices or contact lenses (preferred)
- Experience in statistical analysis using JMP or Minitab and / or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher)
- Experience writing, executing and analyzing Engineering Studies
Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school 13 yrs; Assoc. 9 yrs; M.S. 2 yrs; PhD 0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
- Travel Requirements: Position may require international travel, particularly to Germany, for periods of up several weeks per year
