Being a CAD Drafter maintains deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department. Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete projects. Additionally, CAD Drafter transforms initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software. Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The CAD Drafter work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a CAD Drafter typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Position Details The CAD Drafter I is responsible for creating/updating drawings for various telecommunications sites. Drawings will include floor plans, tower elevations, site plans, grounding plans, etc. Most drawings are 2D single line (3D not required). The drafter works closely with engineering personnel to create accurate engineering packages for permitting and construction. Responsibilities: Use computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD & AutoCAD Civil, as well as technical handbooks, utility standards, tables, and calculators. Confer with design engineers and other staff members to resolve problems and create construction documents. Learn to prepare quantity take-offs in a professional and organized manner. Work under the direction of senior designers and engineers. Meet client and Tilson requirements and standards. Manage and maintain design records and files. Learn to complete as-built drawings. Gain confidence in ability to fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation. Able to work semi-independently with little supervision. Develop career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced designers and engineers. Qualifications: 1-2 years’ experience in the utility or civil industry preferred. Positive attitude, able to collaboratively work with others. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant software. Fundamental training in the use of computer-aided drafting software, including Civil 3D. Experience drafting civil or utility drawings. 1-2 years of AutoCAD Civil 3D experience. Ability to follow company CAD drafting standards and procedures. Comfort with Google Earth, GIS or other mapping applications. Excellent verbal and written communication.
