    Summary

    Tests, calibrates, and repairs electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards.

    Assists in formulating calibration standards.

    Helps the Quality Inspection Team during down times.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Issues gaging to workers and maintains records of gaging issued and returned.
    • Locates lost or misplaced gaging or reports same to supervision or management as appropriate.
    • Prepares periodic inventory and maintains perpetual inventory of gaging.
    • Receives, unpacks, and stores incoming gaging, and requisitions stock to replenish inventory.
    • Inspects and measures gaging for defects and wear and reports damage or wear to supervisors.
    • Repairs, services, and lubricates gaging (or arranges for contracting of same if needed).
    • Delivers gaging to workers.
    • Marks and identifies gaging or as applicable reports to supervision.
    • Responsible for maintaining the gaging storage area in an orderly and organized manner
    • Plans sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment.
    • Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.
    • Disassembles instruments and equipment and inspects components for defects.
    • Responsible for keeping a climate-controlled environment for calibration purposes including temperature and humidity logs proving as much.
    • Measures parts for conformity within specifications.
    • Aligns, repairs, replaces, and balances component parts of gaging.
    • Reassembles and calibrates instruments and equipment.
    • Devises solutions to solve problems in measurements and calibrations.
    • Assists engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment.
    • Audits the production floor periodically as needed for gage calibration status and labeling.
    • Ensures all instruments, gages, etc are calibrated - traceable to NIST standards per PGM AS9100 procedures within the scheduled due dates.
    • Maintains electronic and/or paper records of calibrations per PGM AS9100 standards including data entry for all gages and measuring equipment in the PGM database.
    • Responsible for participating in AS9100 audits conducted by PGM personnel and conducted by certified auditors.
    • Responsible for procurement of outside services for calibration of surface plates, CMM’s etc.
    • Assists the purchasing group in alerting, scheduling, and facilitating the use of outside calibration services when needed, as prompted in the gage calibration schedules.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training and/or Experience

    • Requires a High School or Trade School education and a minimum of four (4) years mechanical inspection or related machining experience.
    • Must demonstrate a proficiency in trigonometry and geometry and complete certifications as directed by company and/or customer standards.
    • On-the-job training is provided as needed.
    • Must be able to read engineering drawings proficiently.
    • Computer proficient
    • Must be able to enter and retrieve data in gage calibration computer program.
    • Must have the ability to be organized for easy retrieval of information and data.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.

    Mathematical Skills

    Must demonstrate a proficiency in trigonometry, geometry, and machining mathematics. Ability to perform these operations using units of length, weight, volume, and distance in both English and metric units.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to solve problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific visual abilities required for this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to monitor product visually.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, minimal exposure to extreme heat and vibrating machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
