Capacity Planning Supervisor leads a capacity planning team to plan and monitor an organization's operating limits and capacities. Forecasts and plans capacity requirements to align with production schedules, resource levels, and inventory demand. Being a Capacity Planning Supervisor identifies and troubleshoots production issues or bottlenecks that impact plant capacity. Coordinates with internal stakeholders to understand future plans and develop responsive capacity forecasting. Additionally, Capacity Planning Supervisor utilizes production metrics and manufacturing research to develop insights on processes or equipment and recommend improvements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Capacity Planning Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Capacity Planning Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     The P ZB RESOURCE PLANNING Department of the P OPERATIONS PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)


    JOB FUNCTION:

    Supervises, directs, and monitors effectiveness of the activities of the planning Division to ensure that projects and tasks for the construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of the company's transmission and distribution facilities, are planned to maximize resource utilization, ensure efficiency, and may be performed in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Manages, directs, and monitors the department’s activities for capital, system, and corrective and predictive maintenance demands to insure optimization of internal resources, forecasted capital and O&M budgets and variances remain within acceptable limits, and alignment with company/department goals and objectives. Conducts on site field investigations as needed.
    • Analyzes department’s labor and non-labor resources to organize, prioritize, and schedule O&M and capital work activities, including various projects, preventive maintenance programs, condition assessment programs and other related maintenance activities to ensure system availability and reliability, and forecasted capital and O&M budgets and variances for the department remain within acceptable limits. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements.
    • Supervises, directs, and monitors work of assigned personnel to ensure that planning of projects and tasks for the construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of the company’s transmission and distribution facilities, maximize utilization of available resources, and may be performed in a safe, timely, efficient and cost-effective manner. This includes administrative functions such as preparing performance appraisals, conducting interviews, reviewing timecards, etc. Promotes teamwork and self-directed workforce to support quality initiatives and Company values.
    • Analyzes, monitors, and assists in the development of the department’s O&M forecasts including recommendations to determine appropriate staffing, tooling, and material requirements.
    • Plans, schedules, and conducts meetings (including safety, training, informational, etc.) to encourage/foster lines of communication between various levels of the workforce and to maintain, increase and/or improve workforce knowledge and skills; manages performance of employees, trains and develops personnel towards an effective and skilled workforce.
    • Interacts with all employees and other internal and external suppliers and customers in a positive, supportive, and collaborative manner, to ensure the fulfillment of company strategic objectives.
    • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

    • Working knowledge of the operational aspects of overhead and underground transmission & distribution systems and how they apply to planning and scheduling safe and effective work projects.
    • Working knowledge of transmission & distribution construction and maintenance procedures and work practices or equivalent.
    • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, work order management system, scheduling system, etc.)
    • Thorough knowledge of union contract, Company policies, and Department policies/practices.
    • Thorough familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations/permits, laws, and codes.

    Skills Requirements

    • Ability to effectively communicate and work with various levels and groups of the organization, both bargaining unit and merit, verbally and in written communication.
    • Ability to be pro-active and self-directed.
    • Supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with sensitive, difficult, or confrontational issues.
    • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities and assignments.
    • Ability to handle difficult or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
    • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for frequent or required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
    • Effective process management skills to organize resources and activities in order to improve and integrate work processes.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Demonstrate analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills to assess the demands of the work, recommend proper actions, and handle multiple systems, projects and programs with minimal supervision.

    Experience Requirements

    • Extensive (5-7 - 7) years of exprience in T&D operations and maintenance and/or engineering design experience in overhead and underground transmission (138 Kv and 46 Kv) and distribution (25 Kv and below) or related electrical experience.
    • Several (3 - 5) years of related work experience in a supervisory or Team Lead capacity.
    • Several (3 – 5) years of project management experience preferably with an electrical utility.
    • A few (1-2) years of related experience in preparing operating budgets and managing expenses.
