Cardiac Technician operates heart/lung machines and related laboratory apparatus as well as physiological pressure monitoring systems. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, regarding individualized treatment plans, evaluation results, and progress reports. Being a Cardiac Technician may require an associate degree or its equivalent. Also may require completion of a certificate in health technology or scientific instrumentation in electrocardiography. Additionally, Cardiac Technician typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Cardiac Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Performs noninvasive cardiology tests such as cardiac stress test including Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT) and Nuclear Medicine Stress Testing. Under the supervision of a site physician, performs various professional and administrative duties related to cardiac and nuclear medicine stress testing including but not limited to: patient preparation including IV start and ECG lead placement, administration of exercise and pharmacological stress tests, and application of ACLS measures to patients when needed. Are responsible for preparation of patient for imaging and stress testing procedures including patient interviews, and patient teaching related to the procedure.
