Being a Carpenter follows blueprints and plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Position Summary:
Ability to physically complete and have the knowledge to perform maintenance and repair duties such as install foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials. Provides maintenance services to all Grand Canyon West locations and facilities. Additional duties may include but not limited to: welding, plumbing, electrical services and maintaining building structures. May also maintain and repair diesel- and gas-powered generators and vehicle/machinery maintenance including engine, transmission, tires, brakes, front-end, electrical issues, etc. May operate heavy equipment as part of duties. Interprets operating, maintenance and repair manuals. Provides quality customer service at all times while following safety and health procedures and policies.
Knowledge and Abilities:- Ability to physically complete and have the knowledge to perform maintenance and repair duties such as install, repair, maintain buildings and fixtures in commercial and residential structures.
- Ability to read and understand operating, maintenance and repair manuals for equipment, machinery and all maintenance services offered. Some of this information may be obtained through online methods.
- Ability to assemble and fasten materials using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
- Ability to routinely walk, stand, bend and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a team environment and establish and maintain positive working relationships. Good client/customer service skills and the ability to work independently as well as in support of the group effort.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform routine inspections of building structures.
- Interpret and translate into action information provided by maintenance and repair manuals, either online or in the physical manuals.
- Answer visitors’ questions, gives directions, share information about GCW, the Hualapai history and culture, etc.
- Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hands tools or power tools.
- Maintain maintenance equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition. Label, dilute and use all chemicals in a proper manner. Always follow safety and health policies and procedures.
- Install foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
- Good oral communication skills.
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Preference given to Hualapai Tribal members.
- Familiarity with carpentry principles and methods.
- Experience of using hand and power tools such as drills, chisels, sanders, saws and nail guns, etc.
- Ability to complete projects unsupervised and unassisted.
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools etc.
Position requires ability to work indoors as well as in outdoor environment for long periods of time, regardless of weather conditions.
