Summary :
Plans, organizes and directs the functions and operations of Central Sterile Supply and Equipment Depot (if applicable), and the procedures / processes of sterile processing performed in all areas of the hospital.
Develops and implements policies and procedures to comply with JCAHO, State regulations and hospital policy. Responsible for overall management and coordination of the service to include capital improvements and quality of services.
Acts as a role model for staff and others, promoting a climate for effective performance, while allocating resources to support the system mission, vision and values.
Manages expenditures and budget variances and communicates results and mitigation plans.
Position Responsibilities :
Directs overall operations of both the Central Sterile Supply Department and Equipment Depot (if applicable) ensuring regulatory compliance and quality initiatives.
Responsible for employee management including orientation and training, staff retention, staff development, employee engagement, coaching and counseling, and disciplinary issues.
Ensures staff compliance with hospital policies. Plans, directs and is accountable for all areas of staffing to meet objectives in relation to productivity expectations.
Makes necessary adjustment to meet goals. Is additionally able to function in all capacities in CSS when necessary.
Demonstrates effective and appropriate communication to staff via regular staff meetings and other mechanisms to discuss departmental, division and system issues, information and initiatives.
Maintains survey and regulatory readiness. Utilizes technology to monitor performance, efficiency and quality, and the department as a whole.
Develops and ensures implementation of policies, procedures and competencies. Formulates and / or revises departmental procedures, evaluates current products and researches new products and equipment and makes recommendations based on quality and efficiency.
Actively manages expenditures and budget and accounts for variances. Forecasts future revenue and expenses. Optimizes quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursement.
Maintains overall responsibility for internal (on-site) and external (off-site) customer satisfaction and develops strategies to address customer concerns and improve overall ratings / scores.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required :
5 years of CSS healthcare or surgical services experience.
3 years supervisory experience preferred.
Competent in management and leadership ability and have strong communication skills.
Required Education :
Associates Degree preferred.
Training / Certifications / Licensure :
Must be certified through a national sterile processing program.
Actively participates in a professional organization (preferred).
