Certified EHR Trainer conducts technical training programs for end users of EHR (electronic health record) software applications. Determines training objectives and creates lesson plans and other materials needed for training. Being a Certified EHR Trainer configures the training environment to ensure end-users can practice using EHR software both inside and outside of the classroom. Designs and delivers new hire training and ongoing user training during system changes and upgrades. Additionally, Certified EHR Trainer may be responsible for implementing a credentialed trainer program that ensures EHR instructors have the required level of system knowledge to effectively deliver training. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Typically requires Epic/Cerner or similar certification. The Certified EHR Trainer gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Job Summary
The EHR Trainer I is responsible for providing EHR training to users of the electronic health record (EHR) system. The EHR Trainer I provides remote EHR training to end users, troubleshoots and supports EHR workflow issues, and escalates complex problems. The EHR Trainer I will have a keen working knowledge and can demonstrate an understanding of multiple electronic health records systems (EHR/EMR), VPNs, remote desktops, and other related software. Thorough knowledge of clinical and EHR workflows, medical coding, experience training end users remotely, remote troubleshooting of systems and applications, and creating and maintaining training materials are key attributes of the candidate. Supports HIT department team members as necessary.
Job Duties- NOTE: The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive list of all functions and tasks performed.
- Provide remote EHR/EMR/PM system training, orientation, and education for new and existing users, with live demonstration of EHR workflows, processes, and protocols
- Assist with the design, development, and maintenance of instructional materials, independently or with team members, using various software programs, tools, and applications
- Coordinate the rollout and training for new or updated EHR/EMR workflows
- Maintain strong working knowledge of EHR/EMR and general computer applications, and stay current on system changes, enhancements, and best practices. Adapt and learn new technologies and skills quickly
- Fluidity and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Troubleshoot and provide first-level EHR workflow support to EHR system users via phone, email, ticketing system, and or remote access in a timely and professional manner
- Diagnose and resolve issues quickly and effectively, and document user requests, issues, and resolutions in the ticketing system. Escalate complex or unresolved issues
- Participate in system testing, validation, and quality assurance
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Collaborate and communicate with both internal and external staff as needed, via phone, email, ticketing system, Teams, Zoom, Webex, remote access, and or other applications/methods as necessary
- Supports HIT department team members as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned
- An associate degree or higher in Healthcare, IT, or a related field is required
- A minimum of 2 years of remote training end users on EHR/EMR clinical workflows is required
- A minimum of 1 year of clinical experience working in Epic with back-office clinical workflows (medical assistant, nurse, scribe, etc.) is required
- Knowledge of EHR system functionality, workflows, and standards is required
- Proficiency in medical terminology and human anatomy is required
- Proficiency in medical coding (application of ICDs and CPTs) is required
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications is required
- Experience working in multiple different EHR/EMR systems (eClinicalWorks, Athena, AdvancedMD, Allscripts, Cerner, or others) is preferred
- Minimum of 1 year experience in remote support of EHR systems is preferred
