- JOB SUMMARY The chaplain serves as a member of the patient care team assessing, planning and providing for the spiritual and religious needs of patients and families. The chaplain visits all patients, according to the department#s protocol, for initial and follow-up visits in order to provide for the on-going spiritual and religious needs of the patients and families. The chaplain provides religious services according to the hospital wide needs, offers prayer or ritual as needed, contact patients# clergy or spiritual advisor upon patient#s request. The chaplain is present according to hospital and department schedules as well as provides on-call coverage during department required times. The chaplain provides support and encouragement to staff in the performance of their job related responsibilities as well as during times of personal or family stress or crisis. The chaplain participates in Hospital wide performance improvement committees as appropriate. The chaplain provides safe and effective quality pastoral care in accordance with the ethics and standards of professional chaplains and the policies and procedures of the hospital. EDUCATION A master#s degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or spirituality granted or acknowledged from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education required. Minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education required. LICENSURE N/A EXPERIENCE 1 - 2 years of hospital chaplaincy required. Commensurate experience such as a CPE residency program 1 - 3 years of congregational ministry 3 years of spiritual direction or retreat ministry, or other chaplaincy settings is acceptable.# CERTIFICATION Preferred: Eligible for Certification by a recognized professional chaplains certifying organization (National Association of Catholic Chaplains, The Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains). Preferred Certification from a recognized professional chaplains certifying organization such as those listed above. Certification maintained according to requirements of appropriate certifying agency. COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS Must maintain Computer/Typing Skills: Typing skills are required for use of hospital computer system and use of various computer software programs. Must have the ability to utilize basic office equipment; computer, telephone, fax, copier and other equipment as available. JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Must be able to successfully complete established competencies for the position within designated probationary period. Must be able to communicate effectively with various developmental levels and religious groups and to effectively present information to both groups and individuals. Must have the ability to prepare multiple reports and presentations which necessitates adequate grammar and spelling skills. Alzheimer#s/Dementia training as required by OHFLAC required within 30 days of employment, then annually thereafter.
