  • The East Penn School District is seeking outstanding applicants for the position of Public Relations Administrator. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

    Organizational / Labor Relationship: Act 93

    Status (FLSA): 12 month position, salaried

    Reporting Relationships: Ascending lines of responsibility: Assistant Superintendents and Superintendent

    Position Summary: This cabinet level position coordinates the district’s communication initiatives both internally and externally. In developing and implementing a robust network of communications among the staff, students and community, the Public Relations Administrator enhances the image of the district, provides useful information to all stakeholders and appropriately recognizes the achievements of students and staff. As spokesperson for the district, this position has regular interaction with the public, the community, the press, and the school board.

    Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree: English, communications, journalism, or other related public relations field

    Experience: (Preferred) The educational public relations professional shall have a working knowledge of comprehensive internal and external public relations programs, a mastery of basic communication skills and appreciation of the importance of proactive and ongoing communication in public schools.

    • Ability to attend work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities

    Essential Functions

    • Possesses a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at all times
    • Can independently travel between locations in the Lehigh Valley without public transportation
    • Can independently ambulate in and around office area and school buildings
    • Can stand/walk for lengthy periods of time
    • Can frequently lift, carry and convey items up to 25 pounds
    • Contribute to the development of all aspects of the school community as expressed in the East Penn philosophy

    Key Duties And Responsibilities

    • Promotes the mission of the EPSD by regularly highlighting District events/program/activities and the achievements of students/alumni/staff
    • Assumes responsibility for production and maintenance of all District-wide communication including printed publications, press releases, social media, web site content and videos. Examples include the District and Staff Newsletters, District Activities Calendar, School Board Meeting Highlights, and Orientation Brochures
    • Implements and continually enhances the District Communication Plan
    • Supports District Administration in presenting to various groups to promote the District
    • Establishes open and regular communication with the local media
    • Coordinates the annual appreciation day program for all District staff
    • Plans and coordinates the Community Education Program
    • Acts as the District’s primary liaison to the East Penn Education Foundation, including public relations for the Foundation
    • Serve as an integral part of the Crisis Management team, including the development and oversight of crisis communications
    • Coordinates the recognition program for all employees who retire as well as the East Penn Pride program
    • Coordinates student recognition not limited to, but including the EPSD Grad Spotlight
    • Establishes alumni recognition program
    • Serves as liaison with community organizations provide information about the District and its programs
    • Uses innovative and creative approaches to the development of new programs designed to advance the image of the District
    • Keeps informed of current practices in public relations through membership/participation in the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association, and/or the National School Public Relations Association

    Special or Temporary Assignments by the Superintendent of Schools: Responsible for other related assignments made by the Superintendent

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities
    • Ability to independently ambulate in and around school buildings and office areas
    • Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support
    • Can stand/walk for lengthy periods of time
