Job Summary:
Charge is a dynamic and forward-thinking organization in the Utility Construction Industry, committed to delivering excellence in fleet operations. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fleet Operations Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in optimizing our fleet services.
The Fleet Operations Manager, reporting directly to the Director of Corporate Assets, will be proactive and collaborative professional responsible for overseeing various aspects of field, shop, and yard operations to ensure the optimal functioning of our fleet. This is a pivotal role which involves strategic oversight, efficient management of fabrication, refurbishment, storage, inventory control, and maintenance processes, all while maintaining high customer satisfaction across our operating entities. Your leadership will be critical in optimizing our fleet operations to meet business objectives while upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction which is essential for the success of our company.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to optimize fleet operations, aligning with the company's goals and objectives. This includes evaluating current processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Lead and mentor a team of fleet technicians, mechanics, and administrative staff. Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to ensure that team members perform their duties effectively and efficiently. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Oversee the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all vehicles and equipment in the fleet, including preventive maintenance schedules and emergency repairs. Coordinate with internal maintenance teams or external service providers to ensure that vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and in optimal working condition at all times.
- Develop and manage the fleet budget, including forecasting expenses, tracking costs, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Work closely with the Director of Corporate Assets to ensure that budgetary goals are met while maintaining the quality and reliability of the fleet.
- Build and maintain relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and service providers involved in fleet management, such as equipment suppliers, parts vendors, and repair shops. Negotiate contracts, manage service agreements, and ensure that vendors deliver quality services and products in a cost-effective manner.
- Evaluate and implement improvements in our fleet management technologies, software systems, and telematics solutions to streamline operations, improve visibility, and enhance decision-making. Leverage data analytics and reporting tools to gain insights into fleet performance and identify areas for optimization.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet operations, such as vehicle utilization, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and downtime. Identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement, and take proactive measures to address them to optimize fleet performance.
- Oversee accurate work order data entry in E360, including parts, labor, subs and tooling costs.
- Participates in departmental meetings to stay abreast of department/business unit issues especially as they pertain to fleet operations, construction practices and procedures, field operations, and other relevant topics.
- Directs the daily scheduling and work management of technicians.
- Assists in equipment organization at yard locations so fleet always has knowledge of what is always available.
- Manage parts warehousing operations, collaborating with procurement to maintain optimal inventory levels.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- 5-7 years of proven experience in fleet management, or an equivalent combination.
- Proficiency with computers including FMS (Fleet Management Software) & Microsoft Office Suite
- In-depth knowledge of fleet operations and maintenance best practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to understand and apply basic financial concepts.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail and analysis of day-to-day tasks
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills
- Valid driver’s license. Ability to travel to jobsites, and overnight trips to Oregon facilities.
- Candidates must meet the government deployment requirements.

Education and Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in business administration, logistics, automotive technology or another relevant field.
- NAFA CAFM, AEMP EMS or similar certifications
- Basic construction knowledge including awareness of procedures, project life cycles, and construction resources and equipment.
- A technical background in the transportation industry with trucks, and/or heavy construction equipment.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current DOT Medical Card.
- Ability to safely climb up and on trucks and loads.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to properly secure cargo using chains and load binding devices on equipment.
