Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Demonstrate, teach and evaluate nursing skills utilized in direct patient care
Maintain adequate nursing coverage to provide safe nursing care
Oversee medication management to ensure adequate supplies and that all medications are handled in accordance with policy

Qualifications
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, college or university with a current registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing. A minimum of two years full-time or equivalent clinical experience is required and a minimum of one year of clinical experience in long-term care nursing is preferred. Must maintain current BLS/CPR certification.
