Chemical Engineer conducts research and development projects involving the study of chemical reactions and material properties to innovate and develop new products or optimize existing products. Designs experiments and builds prototypes and models used to investigate and support the development of improved chemicals, materials, products, and manufacturing processes. Being a Chemical Engineer compiles and analyzes testing data. Presents research results used to estimate costs, establish performance standards, identify solutions, and facilitate processes. Additionally, Chemical Engineer maintains lab and plant safety procedures for chemical storage, handling, transport, and disposal. Complies with all safety and environmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Typically reports to a manager. The Chemical Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering Services Division, working as a team member at our government client site involved in research and development of polymer products for Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, West Bethesda. Duties include, but not limited to:- Research and development of polymer products for naval use
- Identify means of quantifying polymer aging effects
- Study adhesive performance for developmental polymer formulation
- Manage laboratory equipment and qualify new mixing equipment
- Design and manufacture molds to produce prototype
- Produce technical documents and reports
- Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Material Engineering
- Experiences with polymer processing is a plus
- 2 – 5 years of DoD laboratories or industrial experiences are desired
- Knowledge in polymer products and characteristics
- Familiar with industrial safety requirements
- Aptitude and desire for hands on work
- Good leadership and organizational skill
- Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing
Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus
