    Reports to: Superintendent

     

    Additional longevity credit provided based on previous public school experience degree stipend available consistent with Contract Addendum A (linked above). 2% base salary increases scheduled for July 1, 2024 for the 2024/25 school year. 

     

    General Summary

    The Chief Academic Officer is responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the District’s PK-12 curriculum, instruction, and professional learning. The Chief Academic Officer reports to the Superintendent and assists substantially and effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services.  

     

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Provides leadership for the development of all curriculum, instructions and staff professional learning for the district.
    2. Leads curricular teams to provide short and long range curricular and instructional planning.
    3. Supervises and evaluates building principals, department and its support staff.
    4. Supervises K-12 athletic programming, including supervision and evaluation of LEAP Director and Middle School Athletic Coordinators. 
    5. Maintains positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
    6. Oversees Professional Learning and Marzano evaluation of staff.
    7. Assists with the implementation of MI-CIP and TCAPS’ strategic plan.
    8. Serves as the district’s student discipline hearing officer.
    9. Responsible for the oversight of the District’s curriculum and instruction budgets.
    10. Oversees the day-to-day instructional operations of elementary and secondary buildings.
    11. Ensures elementary and secondary buildings are continuously improving instruction, assessment and evaluation processes, procedures, and strategies.
    12. Chairs and participates in various committees including the district’s Board of Education Curriculum Committee.
    13. Provides support and guidance for special education staff and programs.  
    14. Oversees all Special Education complaints including Due Process
    15. Participates on the Superintendent’s Cabinet and Executive Team.
    16. Oversees Office of Civil Rights inquiries in areas of responsibility
    17. Attends local, regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.
    18. Other duties as assigned.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    1. Master’s degree in Education with emphasis in Educational Administration. Valid Michigan Central Office endorsement.
    2. Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in school administration.
    3. Successful administrative experience at both building and central office levels.
    4. Previous Assistant/Associate Superintendent experience preferred.
    5. Experience working with and understanding special education systems and supports is preferred.
    6. Demonstrated ability to use various types of technology to access and communicate information.
    7. Knowledge of Online Learning Systems
    8. Proven ability to review, analyze and summarize data to make critical decisions.
    9. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively.
    10. Demonstrated ability to lead small and large groups.
    11. Demonstrated ability to manage fiscal, human and physical resources.
    12. High level of energy and enthusiasm.
    13. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

     

    Physical and Mental Requirements:

    1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the office. 
    2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
    3. The person in this position needs to be able to move about the office setting, including stooping or crouching to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. 
    4. Regular use of computer and other office equipment (printer/copy machine, etc.)
    5. The ability to listen and effectively communicate, both written and orally, information and ideas to a diverse population.
    6. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
    7. Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions. 
    8. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations. 
    9. Occasionally moves boxes and office supplies weighing up to 20 lbs across the office for various needs. 
    10. Ability to drive to various locations throughout the district.

    Environmental Conditions:

    This is a largely sedentary assignment, with most of the duties performed on a computer or phone in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

     

    Work Schedules:

    Must be available for overtime and/or emergency overtime before and/or after regular scheduled workday, when necessary.
