Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice plans and directs the policies, objectives, and initiatives of one or more physician office sites. Responsible for the short- and long-term profitability and growth of the practice. Being a Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice approves work procedures and standards for the units and ensures consistent implementation and enforcement. Represents the organization to investors, the industry, and the public. Additionally, Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice may require a MD. May require State License to Practice Medicine. Typically reports to a board of directors. The Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact. Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.     The Make-A-Wish Maine Chapter is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to successfully guide the Chapter into the future. The CEO directs the day-to-day activities of the Chapter to achieve the mission, goals and annual operating plans.  Make-A-Wish Maine carries out its impactful work with a dedicated staff and partners with community volunteers to deliver its programs and is governed by a Board of Directors.

    Requirements of the Chief Executive Officer:
    • Bachelor’s degree required, with an advanced degree preferred
    • Passion for, and commitment to, the Make-A-Wish mission
    • Minimum of 10 years of executive or management experience at a respected nonprofit or public institution, or significant nonprofit experience developed through voluntary service in the sector
    • Fundamental understanding or experience in major gift cultivation, solicitation, and fundraising principles as they impact an organization
    • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, including a proven track record in leading and growing organizations
    • Has worked closely and positively with governing/fundraising boards and effectively developed and strengthened those boards
    • Possesses working knowledge of the legal, fiscal, and regulatory environment in which a nonprofit operates
    • Strong business and budget management skills
    • Strategic thinker who can also plan and execute short-term objectives in pursuit of a long-term vision and create action plans that yield results
    • Ability to commute to Scarborough, ME office and communities across the region and state


    Benefits of the Job:
    • Annual pay in the range of $135,000 to $150,000
    • Bonus structure
    • Hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote)

    Responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer:
    • Create an organization, staffing and succession plan that supports the needs of the chapter.
    • Recruit, hire, train and motivate a high talent staff that meets or exceeds goals.
    • Ensure the appropriate initiatives and volunteer development programs are in place to achieve the annual wish granting goal.
    • Focuses key stakeholders on mission critical, long-term initiatives through effective strategic planning.
    • Challenges and inspires the organization to consider the “big” picture.
    • In conjunction with stakeholders, translates strategies into concrete action plans.
    • Executes short- and long-term plans and uses tangible metrics to ensure success.
    • Increase brand awareness, engagement, and collaboration through effective messaging, intentional community outreach, relationship-building, partnership collaboration, and purposeful calls to action.
    • Play an active leadership role in succession planning and recruiting board members to meet the needs of the board.
    • Collaborate with the board in creating strategic plan and goals that support future advancement of the mission. Establish with the board, the measurements and methods to consistently review progress of the strategic plan and goals.
    • Ensure the organization has the proper oversight, internal controls, forecasting, and transparent reporting to maintain/improve the fiscal health of the Chapter.
    • Ensure board receives timely and accurate information about finances, investments, year-end audit, IRS Form 990 and other issues that impact chapter financial affairs.
    • Participate in the creation of the annual development plan to ensure the funding sources are diversified and optimized.  Provide direction to staff and board, focusing on the most significant opportunities to increase revenue growth.
    • Take an active leadership role in soliciting funds and stewarding major and corporate donors.
