Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     General Summary:

    Under the direction of the Site Manager and Nuc Med Supervisor, demonstrates competency and actively functions in Nuclear Medicine procedures.

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepares procedure room and patient for all studies. Properly disinfect all equipment after each patient, following cleaning policies and protocols. All dirty linen should be disposed and replaced after every patient. Monitor patient flow for efficient daily operations.
    • Educates patient regarding ordered procedure and answers any related questions. Obtain patient history and written consent for exam. Verify patient information, check for appropriate ICD-9/10 codes. Utilize appropriate patient safety screening/consent forms to ensure all safety precautions have been addressed prior to procedure.
    • Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures in accordance with established protocols. Positions patients and selects appropriate equipment necessary to accomplish procedure depending upon the age of the patient and the physical capabilities. Adjusts scan times and pregnancy forms as needed for patient age or limitations. Monitors patient during procedures; notifies Radiologist of reactions or problems. Assist the radiologists when necessary. Every effort must be made to minimize patient discomfort.
    • Demonstrate competency on all general diagnostic imaging equipment in Nuclear Medicine. Ensure quality images for all completed procedures prior to releasing patient by reviewing films or sending images to the PACS System, depending on type of procedure. Imaging QA’s should be less than 2% per month.
    • Carries out duties and assumes responsibility for portions of the quality assurance program, as directed by the equipment vendors. Maintain competence with HIS, RIS, PHS and PACS.
    • Run a pending work report daily to ensure all exams have been properly charged. PACS and HIS errors are closely tracked and reported on PI reports following the QA policy. The individual error rate should be less than 2%.
    • Maintain adequate supplies. Responsible for stocking the room, as assigned, at the beginning of each shift and throughout the day to ensure that the room is always ready to perform the required procedures. Be aware of supply needs and par levels, and report all items that fall below par level to the designated person.
    • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

    • Credential(s): Nuclear Medicine Technologist Basic Life Support Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist ;
