    Job Description

    The vision of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) is to ensure that all OJA youth and their families have the resources and supports they need to reach their full potential. To support this vision, OJA seeking a Chief Psychologist. This role is key to support the youth and families related to individualized behavioral health matters. The primary duties of the Chief Psychologist are focused on secure care at Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center (COJC). This role leads assessment efforts, conducts training at COJC, oversees the supervision of clinical and programming at COJC, and assist with statewide initiatives.


     

    Basic Purpose

    Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for performing professional work in the administration and interpretation of standardized cognitive, affective, and behavioral tests and providing clinical services in a state agency, institution, facility and/or clinic. This includes determining the psychological diagnosis and/or treatment of patients in state custody. This position assists with implementation of behavioral health initiatives across the agency and state operated facility.


     

    Typical Functions

    The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit, and organization, but may include the following:

    · Performs psychological evaluations, including tests and interpretation of test data · Provides testimony at court hearings as ordered by the court · Prepares reports on findings and interviews, including diagnostic opinions for the agency and court personnel · Selects and administers a variety of psychological tests (intelligence, personality, aptitude, and related tests), and interprets test findings. · Assists with the oversight of the assessment division for the agency · Conducts individual, family, and group therapy for youth involved in the state’s juvenile justice agency · Provides oversight and implementation of crisis and suicide intervention practices. · Evaluates mental health service delivery needs and makes recommendations facility wide practices. · Attends treatment team meetings and assists in the development and updates of comprehensive treatment plans · Supervises assigned behavioral health staff and students · Provides training in areas of expertise for the facility and agency · Assists in developing training programs for the recognition and handling of problems for youth and families involved with juvenile justice · Conducts in-service training programs for staff members and other professionals in behavioral health needs.


     

    Level Descriptor

    Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others.

    This job family consists of only one level; this is the leadership level, and incumbents are responsible for the supervision of assigned subordinate staff. Incumbents are responsible for performing all functions related to the position to which assigned.


     

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level includes knowledge of psychological theory; methods

    of psychological counseling, psychotherapeutic methods, case assessment methods individual and group

    testing, projective techniques; statistical methods; statistical methods; research designs of community

    problems; special education of individuals with mental, emotional, social problems, and special needs; and

    administration and supervisory practices, principles, and techniques.

    Abilities at this level includes ability to establish and maintain professional relationships; direct the work of

    others; serve as a consultant and/or function in an administrative capacity; work with community groups

    and agencies to develop guidance programs and services; and exercise good judgement in solutions

    analysis and decision making


     

    Education and Experience

    Education and Experience requirements at this level mandates the completion of the curriculum requirements for a doctorate in psychology (Ph.D., Ed., or Psy.D.) from an accredited college or university with a specialty in clinical or counseling psychology. Must be currently licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.


     

    Special Requirements

    Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position, possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at time of appointment and be willing to be on-call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Office of Juvenile Affairs has determined that some positions in this job family are safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.

    Must be able to pass background check and drug screening.

    A trial period of 12 months will be required.
