Chief Ultrasound Technologist oversees Ultrasound Technologists and maintains the technical aspects of ultrasound services. Acts as a liaison between technologists, physicians and area support staff. Being a Chief Ultrasound Technologist suggests equipment modification and evaluates accuracy and quality of ultrasound images. May perform duties of Ultrasound Technologist as needed. Additionally, Chief Ultrasound Technologist requires an associate degree in ultrasound technology. Requires Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential. Typically requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a senior manager or director. The Chief Ultrasound Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. The Ultrasound Tech performs ultrasound procedures that are complex and elaborate to assist the physician in the diagnosis of injury and/or disease.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate or graduating within 6 months of hire from an accredited Medical Imaging Program
2. CPR certification required.
3. Must be RDMS certified within 18 months of hire.
4. Must be RVT certified if working in Vascular prior to hire.

1. Prepares and explains exams to patients.
2. Performs all exams that pertain to specialty area.

6. Upon completion of exam, all paperwork is finished that deals with patient.
7. Participates in the education / oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students in collaboration with the preceptor, manager, and/or designated education coordinator.
