Child Life Specialist is responsible for the design and implementation of pediatric programs, therapies, and activities among young patients. Works with families to assist in caring for childhood hospitalizations or disabilities. Being a Child Life Specialist monitors child development to ensure normal progression. Provides in-depth care as needed to more urgent cases. Additionally, Child Life Specialist may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Work collaboratively with participant, family, and community agencies to support participant in their service planning. Reviews service/treatment plans with participants at specified intervals and amends as needed to reflect participants changing needs. Works collaboratively with participant and their support system as needed for service/treatment plan review and follow up.
This position requires a flexible availability to conduct program services. The duties are not limited to the office, the LSS II is expected to meet participants in their home or surrounding community to meet their needs. This could include providing transportation for a participant on occasion using a personal or agency vehicle as needed.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Provide life skills utilizing an evidence base model to guide and coach in a variety of subject matters to youth ages 6-23 of age and their parents. Participates in implementing a trauma-informed approach to services that promotes relationship building, pro-social behaviors, cooperative learning, self-help skills, academic achievement, employment, and strengthening daily living skills within an academic environment. Assisting young and their parents in identifying personal barriers to independence through collaborative assessment of their life skills, employment skills, and personal development needs, and assist families with developing attainable short and long-term goals for skills development, strategies for meeting these goals, and an action plan for implementation.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with community resources in alignment with an evidence based curriculum.
Experience with accessing support services similar to those of our participants. Ex. Government assistance (medical, financial, housing)
