    What are we looking for?

    We want to add a Community and Donor Relations Associate to our Marketing and Development team. As the Community and Donor Relations Associate, you will help build relationships between the philanthropy community and worthy causes for our District of Columbia and Virginia Operations. This position will be considered the expert in developing strategies and fundraising ideas to meet the agency's financial goals. You will report to the Director of Marketing and Development and work with the State Directors and the marketing and development team to ensure that the department meets SJCS's needs and upholds the organization’s vision and mission.

    Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:

    • Promote awareness of the SJCS’s mission and work.
    • Cultivate and maintain a current and potential network of dedicated donors and volunteers through businesses, schools, churches, and other organizations.
    • Propose and develop new fundraising opportunities throughout the organization.
    • Plan fundraising initiatives with the development team to help the organization meet financial goals.
    • Form strong relationships with external community members and corporations to further the SJCS mission.
    • Execute fundraising events with the Development and State teams.
    • Obtain gift-in-kind donations to support DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) programs.
    • Research individuals, corporations, and foundations for partnerships and collaboration efforts to reach monetary goals.
    • Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
    • and community partners.
    • Strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns.
    • Organize and lead fundraising events, procuring everything from location to sponsorships, volunteers, entertainment, attendees, etc...
    • Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met.
    • Engage with local Chambers and participate in community and networking events to promote our brand.
    • Enter weekly donations and new donors into the organization's CRM.
    • Promote strong relationships with program staff to identify and meet programmatic needs, benefiting the SJCS people supported and the organization overall.

    Qualifications


    The minimum experience, education, and requirements needed for consideration:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or related field.
    • One or more years of experience in philanthropy, fundraising, sales, or marketing.

    You will catch our eye if you have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    • Human services and Mission-driven and the ability to lead and motivate colleagues and volunteers.
    • Large event planning experience.
    • Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising.
    • Experience in writing press releases and fundraising letters.
    • Confidence in public speaking with exceptional, clear, concise written communication skills.
    • Motivated self-starter with exceptional time management and relationship-building skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events.
    • Familiarity with Donor Management Systems to keep donor data up to date.
    • Ability to connect personally and professionally with donors at every level.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Ability to adapt and problem-solve in various situational scenarios.

    All SJCS employees must:

    • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet current funding authority requirements as required.
    • Having a valid state-issued driver’s license with a current driving record in good standing is required.
    • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

    Physical and environmental conditions include:

    • Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort except the normal risks or discomforts, requiring special safety precautions for operating a motor vehicle.
    • Exposure to aggressive human behavior.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Travel 50-60%.

    The hiring range for this position ranges from $80,000 - $90,000, depending on experience.
