Shavano Conservation District (SCD) has a full-time IRA District Conservation Technician position available subject to annual re-appropriation. This position provides technical and administrative assistance for conservation program goals created by the Inflation Reduction Act targeting Greenhouse Gases, Climate Smart activities, Ag Forestry, Planning and Outreach participants in Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) projects, and will assist SCD in meeting the goals and objectives of the District, including improving water quality & quantity, rangeland & soil health. Expected Deliverables are: Contract Administration, Conservation Planning and File Management, Conservation Practice Implementation, Program Outreach and Marketing. These duties will include but are not limited to the following: Gathers & compiles planning data on rural and/or urban sites for development & evaluation of natural resource conservation plans, provides technical support to the conservation planners in resource planning with field designs, layouts, inspections and surveying and works directly with landowners to ensure proposed projects meet NRCS Standards and Specifications for approved practices, offer technical assistance to landowners for soil health practices and other programs offered through SCD and compile data as needed. Must possess at least one-year specialized experience and/or education relating to agricultural and/or natural resource fields such as soil science, forestry, agronomy, range management or agricultural education, computer skills, basic knowledge of irrigation systems including underground & gated, sprinkler & drip systems preferred but not mandatory, must possess good interpersonal skills and have a valid state driver’s license with clean driving record. This position will require some physical outdoor job responsibilities including but not limited to inspecting farm and ranch lands for program requirements-some at higher elevation and on uneven surfaces, soil testing and carrying of equipment.
The position is a one-year appointment which could be extended as funding allows. $24/hour and benefits include paid vacation, sick leave & holiday pay.
