Correctional Officer, Sr. enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer, Sr. oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer, Sr. documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Firearms Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.   • Provide safe and secure housing for inmates committed to the Eau Claire County Jail.
    • Observe and supervise inmates from stations or by patrolling cell blocks, corridors, dormitories or work areas to maintain order, safety and security relating to the confinement of inmates defined by Wisconsin State Statutes and the US Constitution
      • Maintain counts of inmates in assigned areas
      • Search inmates and inspect cells, recreation areas, and other activity areas for unauthorized objects or materials
      • Respond to safety and security incidents and other emergency situations, break up fights and physically restrain and control resisting and uncooperative Inmates
      • Respond to inmate concerns and needs, medical emergencies, perform emergency first aid, operate emergency equipment, and report to medical staff
      • Write reports for incidents or discipline and maintain records of inmate funds and personal property
      • Pursue inmates attempting escape, search visitors, participate in administrative and disciplinary hearings, administer drug and alcohol testing and transport and assist in the supervision of resident outside the facility (i.e., court appearance, medical appointments, transfers to other facilities)
    • Admits and discharges inmates
      • Records inmate demographic information
      • Photographs and fingerprints inmates
      • Receives bail bond monies and fine payments
      • Interprets and complies with all bond conditions and commitment orders
    • Controls all access to the Jail
      • Allows authorized individuals access to inmates
      • Ensures that inmates are available for all scheduled court appearances and other appointments
      • Escort and supervises inmate access to educational, recreational, religious, library services and other activities ensuring compliance with all procedures and schedules for meals, laundry, cleaning, maintenance, inspection, and inmate activities
      • Answers or properly refers all inquiries concerning inmates
      • Prevents and documents damage to jail property and facilities
    • Testifies in court
    • Assists in peer instruction or training
    • Carries out any lawful order or duty as prescribed by the Sheriff
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    • No felony convictions in any jurisdiction unless the judgment or conviction has been reversed or a complete pardon has been granted
    • Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
    • Experience or training in personal computer use with Microsoft Office software
    • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
      • Criminal background check
      • Pre-employment physical examination
      • Psychological examination
      • Drug screening
    • Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Operator's License and acceptable driving record
    • Successfully complete the in-house training program and the Wisconsin Jail Recruit Training certification
    • As a condition of continued employment, will be required to pass a one-year introductory period and complete 24 hours of annual jail recertification training
