    Duties / Responsibilities:

    The office is seeking a criminal investigator with extensive experience in criminal investigations to fill a position within the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. The position offers a unique and challenging experience for a highly motivated person. The selected candidate will be assigned to work as a task force investigator assigned to the Social Security Administration’s Cooperative Disabilities Investigation (CDI) Unit. Primary duties include the following:

    • Investigate and determine material facts sufficient to resolve questions of fraud in SSA disability programs.
    • Aid State and Federal prosecutors to carry out investigations relating to grand jury investigations;
    • Assist with pre-trial preparation and other litigation efforts;
    • Coordinate efforts in investigating criminal activity with existing federal, state and local law enforcement resources; and
    • Initiate criminal investigations for violations of the law at the direction of the Attorney General.

    The candidate will also be responsible for making arrests independently or in conjunction with local, state or federal law enforcement agencies; testifying in criminal and civil proceedings; applying for and executing search and arrest warrants; serving civil and criminal process; and other duties as needed.

    Qualifications:

    The minimum qualifications for this position include the following: Successful completion of the basic course of instruction for police officers at the Providence police training academy, the Rhode Island municipal police training academy, the Rhode Island state police training academy, or certified as a police officer by the duly-constituted state commission on police officer standards and training of another state, or served as a member of the United States Marshal’s Service or as a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a criminal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Justice, the United States Department of State, the United States Department of Treasury or the United States Postal Inspection Service; at least three (3) years of active law enforcement experience; applicants should also have prior experience with fraud and/or financial crime related investigations.
