Job Summary
The mixing operator tends daily to assigned mixers, and is responsible for safe mixing operations, and maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment. It is the mixing operator’s responsibility to keep track of all mixing operating tools throughout the day, and document it on the mixing log. The mixing operators need to closely read and follow all of the batch cards.
Essential Functions- Obtain a production schedule for the day from the mixing supervisor
- Before operating the mixer, the mixing operator must thoroughly inspect the mixer and the mixing room to observe the overall cleanliness. The mixer also needs to be checked for any damage or maintenance repairs that need to be completed.
- Check the scalp screens, and magnets before operating the mixer, and throughout the day
- All platforms and tools in the mixing room must be cleaned and sanitized after finishing each batch card to prevent cross-contamination
- Review previous shift production report to complete any unfinished tasks and report any problems that were encountered. Verify all materials left in the mixing room from previous shift are properly labeled with correct codes and lot numbers.
- Accurately read codes, lot numbers, unit weight, number of units, and check labels to ensure they are correct
- Examine all ingredients before mixing them to check for foreign debris and check finished product to ensure consistency. Notify lead of any inconsistencies, and foreign debris found in products.
- Properly operate and monitor equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations
- Complete the mixing log for every batch card, and clean mixer before starting a new batch card
- Read batch cards to ensure the ingredients being mixed and amount of ingredients is correct
- Start machines to mix or blend ingredients; then allow them to mix for specified times
- Check the accuracy of the scales throughout the day
- Unload mixtures for further processing
- Fill cartons to specified weight levels
- Neatly secure, and seal cartons with packing tape, and stamp them with the day/shift stamp
- Attach a pallet tag to each pallet with the operator’s initials, shift number, the date, and code and lot number.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment
