Curriculum Manager manages the design and development of training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Oversees skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Manager consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Manager provides outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Participates in the selection of software or collaboration tools used for training. Establishes metrics used to evaluate training effectiveness and analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommend changes to programs. May select and manage vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Curriculum Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Curriculum Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     POSITION OBJECTIVES
    : To direct and coordinate the selection, development, and evaluation of standards-based curriculum, assessment, instructional programs, and professional development opportunities of WCSU and its affiliated school districts; to assist the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in long range planning for instruction, curriculum, assessment , and professional learning; to collaboratively lead the administration of elementary, middle, and secondary transformation initiatives; lead the WCSU Mentoring program; and to supervise AST members and related programs in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    CURRICULUM


    • In coordination with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, designs and coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of PreK-12 standards-based curriculum and the progression of curricular programs in all academic and academic support-related areas other than Special Education.
    • Keeps abreast of the literature and research on the relationship between curriculum design and implementation and student learning.
    • Maintains liaison and active participation status within educational leadership organizations in curriculum at the regional, state, and national levels.
    • Monitors school progress in implementing local curriculum, meeting the goals of the district and site-based action plans, and aligning outcomes with state and federal requirements. Interprets and implements all Board policies, administrative regulations, and aspects of negotiated agreements related to curriculum.
    • Is knowledgeable of governmental statutes, regulations, and rules relating to curriculum administration.
    • Prepares district curriculum reports that are required by law or are requested by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or Superintendent.


    INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT


    • Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instructional, and assessment practices and programs.
    • Studies, evaluates, and recommends adoption of instructional materials, methods, programs and assists in budget development for identified programs.
    • Communicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff and provides research and embedded professional learning experiences for approved instructional materials.
    • Observes teachers in the classroom and offers insight for the enhancement of teaching and learning using designated tools.
    • Lead and support various committees and groups that further the growth of the WCSU as determined by the Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) or directed by the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and/or Superintendent.
    • In collaboration with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, directs the administration, review, and evaluation of results of school-based, district-wide, and state testing programs and other evaluative measures used.
    • Oversees the design and implementation of local assessment plans. Promote, support, and regularly revise and update the WCSU Local Comprehensive Assessment System (LCAS), including Data Meeting and Data Management systems.

    • Promotes and develops the on-going use of the current assessment tracking tools at all layers of the organization. Coordinates the analysis of student achievement data from multiple sources for the establishment of annual and multi-year school improvement goals. (LCAS, include revision of diagnostic assessment tools)


    COACHING


    • Supervises and evaluates Academic Support Team (AST) teachers
    • Provides direct coaching to AST teachers, classroom teachers and certified staff, as applicable.
    • Provide coaching for curricular programs directly or in conjunction with AST teachers
    • Takes a leadership role in the implementation of and ongoing development of curricular programs
    • Manages and supports the embedded work of Academic Support Team teachers.
    • Supports AST with standards-based pedagogy including developing and implementing content area learning targets; formative and summative assessments; analyzing and interpreting assessments and other data to help teachers plan instruction
    • Collaborates with AST on approaches to differentiated instruction in partnering with teachers to scaffold and differentiate content area lessons for students
    • Designs a collaborative work plan with AST to articulate the purpose and focus area of the work, based on data analysis, student need, and logistical restraints
    • Collaborates with AST on developing a robust LCAS, including Data Meeting protocols, and Data Management systems.
    • Collaborates with AST to provide data reports and presentations, as applicable.


    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    • Designs and coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of WCSU sponsored professional learning programs (including but not limited to in-service for professional staff).
    • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates contracted professional development and communicates additional course, training and workshop opportunities to professional staff.
    • Recommends and implements professional development plans and provides learning experiences related to new instructional methods and materials. (i.e. grade level meetings, department meetings)
    • Assist with school-wide implementation of best practice instruction and assessment.
    • Manages all documentation and logistics (sign in sheets, contracts, certificates, materials, communication, surveys, feedback, etc.) for professional learning activities.


    INNOVATION

    • Collaborates with all stakeholders to research, write, present and adjust new academic and curricular initiatives.
    • Provides implementation and follow up leadership around new initiatives that broaden the awareness of our mission, programs and priorities.
    • Identifies emerging issues in the areas of curriculum, instructional practices and assessment. Works with school leaders to recognize internal and external innovative opportunities.


    LEADERSHIP

    • Provide research and information on highly effective instructional practices and curriculum and other topics related to instruction as requested by the Superintendent, school boards, or in support of the work of the LT
    • Prepare reports and presentations for the board(s), as requested
    • Lead and support various committees as assigned by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or Superintendent or determined by CIP needs


    GRANTS MANAGEMENT


    • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and Grants Coordinator to ensure compliance with State and Federal grant requirements.

    • Complete personal activity report and all necessary documentation for compliance to grants.


    DISTRICT MENTORING COORDINATOR

    • Manage all logistics and documentation (mentor handbook, stipend agreements, time documentation, welcome letters, budget, grant requirements)
    • Organize and communicate mentor and protege meetings
    • Develop and facilitate New Teacher Induction
    • Coordinate all scheduling and communication for mentors and proteges
    • Coordinate communication of mentoring program with Human Resources during hiring process
    • Act as liaison between mentor group and leadership team


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    Works independently for the most part, planning and implementing broad programs within the organization. Work is checked primarily through consultation and agreement with others rather than by specific directives from supervisors. Evaluated by the Director of Curriculum & Instruction.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the implementation of curriculum-related programs and services. Supervises and evaluates the AST teachers, Instructional Coaches, and/or other personnel at the request of the WCSU Superintendent, Director of Curriculum & Instruction or building Principals. Trains and assigns/coordinates the professional activities of principals and teachers; provides advice on hiring; and supports principals in their performance appraisals of teachers when applicable.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:

    • Education and Experience. Masters Degree in Education or other appropriate discipline plus 3-5 years of relevant K-12 curriculum experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Knowledge of contemporary instructional theory and practice; commitment to proficiency-based curriculum and instruction and success for all learners.
    • Certifications and Licenses. Holds or is eligible to hold a valid Level II Vermont Professional Educator’s License, (K-12 Administrator minimally; Curriculum Director preferred) Valid Vermont drivers’ license also preferred.
    • Language Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the complex scientific, educational, technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to effectively present information to teachers, leadership, public groups, and school board members.
    • Mathematical Skills. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Computer Skills and Experience. Experience and proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs required. Experience with Microsoft Office and social media preferred.
    • Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Communication & Interpersonal Skills. Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies.
